    JOB SUMMARY:


    The Athletic Trainer specializes in prevention, recognition and treatment of injuries and works with athletes at contracted schools, clubs, organizations and events.

    Must observe and comply with such rules, regulations and polices as may be determined by Pennsylvania state licensure, OSS Health and the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA).


    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Sports Medicine, Athletic Training or a related field required.

    Qualifications:

    • Two years of experience preferred.
    Current PA State License in Athletic Training and an AT Certification through the Board of Certification required.

    Clearances as required by PA CPSL, Act 34, and Act 15 and any others requested by OSS Health, a school or organization.


    • Current certification in basic life support (BLS) required, or the ability to obtain before working independently with students or patients.

    Must be able to prioritize work and be self-directed.
    Must be able to communicate professionally in all settings.
    Valid driver's license required.

    Ability to safely operate utility vehicles including but not limited to a "Gator", golf cart or Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV).


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Applies protective or injury-preventive devices such as tape, bandages, and braces.
    • Recognizes and evaluates injuries including the more complicated and challenging (within the scope of practice).
    • Evaluates and provides first aid or emergency care including the more complicated and challenging (within the scope of practice).
    • Develops and carries out rehabilitation programs for injured athletes.
    • Plans and implements comprehensive programs to prevent injury and illness from athletics.
    • Operates a "Gator", golf cart or UTV as needed.
    • Performs administrative tasks, such as keeping records and writing reports on injuries and treatment programs. Develops Emergency Action Plans.
    • Maintains and completes NATA BOC certification, PA AT licensing, education and administrative tasks as assigned and in a timely manner.
    • May guide and mentor less experienced or newly hired staff.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    No direct reports.


    LANGUAGE SKILLS:


    Must be proficient in the English language, both verbally and written, in order to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, vendors, and the general public.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    Moderate physical effort when working in patient care environment consisting of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping.

    Moderate sitting and keyboarding along with fine and gross motor skills and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment.

    Ability to occasionally lift and/or move at least 40 to 50 lbs. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:
    Climate controlled environment and periods of being outside at athletic events. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, sterilizers, electrical and mechanical hazards, confused or combative patients and unpleasant elements. Subject to stressful situations; may work long or irregular hours.
