    Description of Work Unit

    Veterinary Teaching Hospital


    The successful candidate will join an internationally recognized small animal general surgery program comprised of 3 small animal general surgery faculty, 3 orthopedic surgery faculty, seven surgery residents, and floor and OR technologists.

    The program is located in the James L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( VTH ) in Fort Collins, Colorado, with an annual caseload of nearly 40,000.

    The CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a progressive and collaborative workplace with 28 veterinary specialties and dedicated residents, students, and technologists working towards a common goal.

    The surgery faculty have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty at both the Colorado State University Flint Animal Cancer Center and the Translational Medicine Institute.


    Cutting edge surgical instrumentation includes 5 complete STORZ towers for laparoscopy and thoracoscopy including a 3D camera and the 3D IMAGE1 STM RUBINATM system allowing for ICG imaging for fluorescence guided surgery.

    Use of a hybrid OR with intraoperative fluoroscopy is available. Abundant diagnostic imaging resources including CT, MRI , PET -CT, ultrasonography and fluoroscopy are available.

    The Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital ( CSUVTH ) in Fort Collins, Colorado is seeking applicants for a veterinary general surgery position.

    This position is flexible, anywhere from a 0.75 to 1.0 FTE position. Surgeons interested in this position or those with additional questions should contact Dr. Chad Johannes ), Director, CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

    Required Job Qualifications

    A DVM or equivalent degree.


    American College of Veterinary Surgery ( ACVS ) or European College of Veterinary Surgery ( ECVS ) board certification or eligibility by start date.

    Eligibility to obtain a State of Colorado Academic Veterinarian license.

    Demonstrated history of excellence in clinical work.

    The successful candidate should have a strong interest in soft tissue surgery for treatment of complex conditions in dogs and cats.


    The successful candidate is expected to provide superior patient care by utilizing CSU's cutting edge surgical instrumentation and diagnostic technologies (CT, MRI , PET -CT, ultrasonography, and fluoroscopy) as indicated.


    Clinical duties will consist of supervision of patient & client care for small animal patients presented to the Small Animal General Surgery Service.

    Duties of the successful candidate will include teaching of veterinary students, interns, and residents.

    Participation in weekly case presentations, journal clubs and daily case rounds will be encouraged.


    The faculty within General Surgery provide support for after-hours emergencies and the successful candidate will be expected to provide after-hours support for house officers.

    The successful candidate will work closely with other small animal general surgery faculty (3 ACVS Diplomates).
