    Description

    Job Title: Research & Development Laboratory Manager

    The Research and Development Laboratory Manager oversees the daily laboratory operations to ensure study, project, and experimental success while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. This key member of the R&D department leads, manages, and develops laboratory staff, including scheduling, assignment delegation, training, and performance evaluation.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Coordinate and manage activities within the laboratory, ensuring CLIA, ISO, safety, quality, and other applicable standards.
    2. Manage records associated with all activities and programs as necessary.
    3. Provide technical support for laboratory equipment and supplies as needed.
    4. Maintain knowledge of relevant protocols, regulations, standards, and safety procedures, developing and maintaining compliant standard operating procedures.
    5. Manage personnel functions, including interviewing, selecting, training, supervising, evaluating performance, and developing staff.
    6. Organize and facilitate routine laboratory meetings.
    7. Oversee inventory management, including purchasing, storing, and allocating laboratory equipment and supplies.
    8. Responsible for laboratory equipment and supplies, inspecting, maintaining, and troubleshooting as necessary.
    9. Perform and document routine quality assurance and preventive maintenance.
    10. Manage reports pertaining to the laboratory.
    11. Assist in budget estimates as necessary.
    12. Support research activities, including sample preparation and processing, quality control, quality assurance, and others.
    13. Support routine processing of samples associated with ongoing research projects.
    14. Support onboarding new studies and projects into the R&D laboratory.
    15. Assist with research experiments and studies, including process improvement and product development endeavors.
    16. Implement validated process improvements and developed protocols.
    17. Collaborate with agencies, administrators, departments, and stakeholders during internal and external audits.
    18. Update and distribute information regarding protocol, manual, and other updates/changes.
    19. Help manage the overall facility, plan for capacity needs, and lead build-out projects.
    20. Maintain excellent laboratory skills, GLP, GDP, and communication skills.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum 10 years laboratory experience in an equivalent laboratory setting (histopathology, anatomic pathology, etc.)
    • 2-4 years of supervisory experience, including at least one assignment as onsite laboratory manager of a CLIA-certified lab
    • Significant experience working in and/or managing an anatomic pathology lab and blood-based lab
    • Strong experimentation and optimization aptitude
    • Excellent laboratory practices, analytical skills, and QA/QI capabilities
    • Knowledge of good laboratory practices, documentation practices, and experimental design
    • Basic laboratory practices and dynamics knowledge
    • Strong collaboration, communication, and presentation skills
    • Attention to detail and commitment to quality work
    • Proactive work style and willingness to take initiative
    • Professionalism and dedication to respecting colleagues, customers, partners, vendors, and stakeholders
    • Desire to learn and develop professionally

    Education, Certifications & Licensures:

    • Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field (Biomedical engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Biology, Biochemistry, etc.)
    • Master's degree in a related scientific field

    Physical Demands:

    • Combination of seated and standing work to complete core functions
    • Sit and stand for long periods
    • Visual acuity and analytical skills required
    • May perform repetitive motions
    • Exposure to fumes and bio-hazardous materials possible in the laboratory environment
    • Handling general laboratory reagents
