    DS Smith is a leading international supplier of paper-based packaging solutions for consumer products, e-commerce, promotion, transit, and industrial applications. Our Columbia, SC facility specializes in corrugate packaging. We are looking for individuals who already have prior experience in the corrugate and converting box manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate should have experience with machines used to make corrugate boxes.

    Position:

    The Production Manager is responsible for the process management in the areas of safety, quality, productivity, waste, housekeeping and continuous improvement for the Corrugate and Converting departments. One will lead employees in a multi-shift operation regarding the daily routine of producing quality corrugated products in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with all DS Smith standards.

    Education/Experience:

  • Must have experience in corrugated or packaging industries (prefer at least 5 + years of experience)
  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent experience.
  • Must have supervisory or leadership skills (prefer at least a combination 5+ years), leading salaried and hourly employees to defined KPI's
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws for the Corrugate and Converting teams. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, motivate and direct employees.
  • Familiar with basic computer applications and the ability to learn additional business-related systems.
  • Comfortable training and mentoring employees on corrugate and converting equipment.
  • Knowledge of packaging-specific platforms is a plus
  • Capable of managing and measuring work for continuous improvement.
  • Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of a 'Safety First' culture
  • Responsible for the control and maintenance of Plant safety, quality, production, and waste percentages to company expectations (4 key drivers)
  • Responsible for training, planning, scheduling, assigning and directing work, hiring, evaluating employee performance, employee accountability, promoting teamwork, resolving conflict and problem solving
  • Responsible for the control of predetermined budgeted labor costs per MSF
  • Responsible for maintenance and scheduling of PM's in conjunction with the maintenance department
  • Responsible for monthly safety tours and meetings
  • Responsible for machine routing and quoting of new business in conjunction with planning and scheduling
  • Responsible for representing or participating in meetings with current customers and potential customers
  • Responsible for problem solving customer complaints while using an interdepartmental approach
  • Responsible for communicating openly with both Supervisors and hourly employees and other departments
  • Responsible for the maintenance and improvement of daily plant housekeeping standard.
  • Responsible for the development of supervisors for advancement within company
  • Responsible for participating and/ or resolving employee relations issues, as required
  • Responsible for participating in the development of capital and project spending
