    About the Job

PART-TIME UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA POLICE OFFICERS

The University of Minnesota Police Department (UMPD) is hiring police officers to work part-time to provide police services at Gopher football games and other large scale special events. The game-day operations are based out of a Command Center in the Huntington Bank Stadium staffed by a UMPD command staff designee and dispatcher as well as athletics, facilities, and emergency management personnel. While working at the Huntington Bank Stadium, officers from other jurisdictions will be under the command of the UMPD. Officers from other jurisdictions are licensed as University of Minnesota peace officers via the P.O.S.T. Board's "secondary" licensing option.

Officers are provided UMPD uniform shirts, a turtleneck, a jacket, an earpiece and a stocking cap. The officer must provide and wear all other uniform equipment and apparel and have been provided with the UMPD uniform policy. The UMPD does not provide any other uniforms, equipment, or weapons.

Officers will be assigned in pairs when possible, with direct communication to the Command Center. Officers are asked to provide an 800 MHz portable radio from their full-time department, if possible. If this is not possible, officers will be issued at least one UMPD 800 MHz portable on a game by game basis.

Insurance coverage typical to University employment will be provided by the University of Minnesota, including worker's compensation and liability insurance. Neither part-time officers nor the University will pay into the P.E.R.A. system and part-time officers will not accrue vacation, sick, or compensatory time nor be eligible for union benefits. Officers must be on a non-probationary status in their home departments.

Officers must acknowledge UMPD's Use of Force policies, Detention Facility and Custodial Search policies, and Personal Appearance policies. Records of firearms certification and defensive tactics from their full-time departments as well as records of First Responder/EMT certification, if applicable, are maintained in a training file, along with records of training from the UMPD.

If you have questions or concerns please contact Operations Sergeant Brandon Boesl at / or Captain Randy Mahlen at /
