    Summary

    The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in Houston, Texas is seeking an outstanding BC/BE Physician-Scientist at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor with interest in Type 1 Diabetes research. This opportunity includes the potential for philanthropic support to honor the legacy of Dr. Massimo Pietropaolo, a long-standing member of the BCM Endocrinology Section. Successful candidates will be expected to develop a robust, independently funded laboratory and/or clinical research program. We encourage applications from individuals conducting exciting research in any area broadly related to Type 1 Diabetes. Successful faculty members will also participate in the clinical, educational, and service missions of the Section.

    Job Duties

    • Will promote the academic missions of Baylor College of Medicine including teaching and research.
    • Demonstrate research productivity by publication in peer reviewed journals, proposal submission and grantsmanship, presentations at professional meetings that are commensurate with experience, and involvement in professional organizations.
    • Champions quality of care and patient safety by promoting high standards of patient care and services to stakeholders.
    • Work to obtain internal or external funding to support research and establish a robust research group.
    • Contribute to advancement of the profession by sharing specialty expertise through research publication and presentations at professional meetings.
    • Develop original research techniques and applications required for ongoing research projects.
    • Plans, directs, and conducts original research experiments.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • M.D. and/or M.D,Ph.D. degree and demonstrated evidence of commitment to scholarly activity and outstanding scientific accomplishments.
    • Must be qualified for faculty appointment in the Department of Medicine at rank of Assistant Professor or above at Baylor College of Medicine (at the rank of Associate or Full Professor desired).
    • The ideal candidate will have international/national recognition in the field of endocrinology and Type 1 Diabetes research as a clinician/scientist and physician leader.
    • Leadership as well as organizational skills needed to effectively operate in the complex environment of an academic medical center and to effectively manage conflicting agendas.
    • Record of success in mentoring and supporting trainees in their academic, teaching, and clinical endeavors.
    • Must have or be able to obtain an unrestricted Texas medical license.
    • Must be board certified or eligible in endocrinology by the American Board of Pediatrics or equivalent.
