    Job Description

    The Software Engineer Intern will support Lead developer and systems team in data manipulation, data analysis, system testing, and programming tasks to support current initiatives and infrastructure.

    The duration of the summer internship will be 8 weeks.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Active engagement in all phases of the development cycle and the product delivery process (analysis, forecasting, design, coding, testing, deployment, and post implementation support)
    • Analyze and document business/user needs
    • Analyzing data
    • Create documentation for and test new software applications
    • Evaluate new application concepts
    • Interact with users and testers
    • Improve coding abilities by being introduced to new tools and programming languages
    • Improve query and relational database knowledge
    • Improve presenting and communication abilities (both oral and written)

    Education & Training Requirements

    • 2–3-year college experience in Computer Science preferred
    • Programming experience in C, C++, C#, or Java
    • Knowledge of core computer science concepts such as object-oriented design, algorithm design, data structures, problem-solving, and complexity analysis
    • Prior industry experience is preferred

    Other Qualifications

    • Ability to learn new applications and/or functionality quickly.
    • Ability to both work independently with minimal supervision and work effectively in a collaborative team environment
    • Analytical Ability - strong problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task, data curious, and a high degree of emotional intelligence
    • Communication - excellent written and oral communications skills, relationship focus, and strong technical and business acumen; ability to explain complex topics to a wide range of audiences with empathy, clarity and brevity
    • Project management – can manage and communicate multiple projects simultaneously
    • Planning/organizing — Prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
    • Quality control/Attention to detail — Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; monitor own work to ensure quality and apply feedback to improve performance
    • Customer service mindset — Respond promptly to customer needs, solicit customer feedback to improve service, respond to requests for service and assistance and meet commitments
    • Dependability — Consistently at work and on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Ability to lift 15-20 lbs

    Physical Effort & Working Conditions

    Work is performed remotely (home office) or in a normal office setting in our Overland Park, KS headquarters with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer.
