- Perform and report on routine or non-routine tasks/analysis using practices and procedures controlled by precedent and well-defined policy, recognizing scope, limits and errors.
- Able to multi-task and balance productivity and accuracy with changing priorities.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and calibrate same as required. Includes troubleshooting and physical repair.
- Create and authenticate calibration standards and controls (including documentation).
- Expected to be able to identify and resolve equipment and testing problems.
- Work with refinery engineers or other experts to analyze and solve problems/assignments subject to supervisory review (chemistry/analytical math/ troubleshooting).
- Assist in training fellow chemists and hourly personnel on equipment and/or procedures as required.
- Perform laboratory quality assurance tasks (i.e. data tracability/method updates/test method assesments, etc.).
- Bachelor's Degree in a science related field such as analytical or organic chemistry.
- At least 5 years of laboratory experience with basic knowledge of lab testing techniques, lab safety, preparation of standards and solutions preferred.
- Instrument maintenance and trouble shooting preferred. Gas chromatography and Gasoline/Diesel testing experience preferred.
- Prior experience with a lab quality system, cBliss preferred.
- Must be able to work a shift schedule, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
- Knowledge of ASTM laboratory methods for a petrochemical lab a plus.

Description
Laboratory Chemist
The Chemist job position performs routine and non-routine testing on plant production and finished product samples working in a team environment with minimal supervision. Tests include the use of various reagents/chemicals as well as a variety of sophisticated lab equipment. Chemists also perform their own calibrations, minor maintenance and troubleshooting using their knowledge and equipment manuals. Chemists may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays and overtime on an on-call basis.
