    Requirements:
    • Valid and active license issued by the California Department of Public Health Board, Laboratory Field Services.
    • At least 12 consecutive months of performing similar services within the last 3 years.
    • Proficiency in the English Language (Speaking/Writing).
    Responsibilities:
    • Under the guidance of the Institution CEO/CME or authorized representative, the Phlebotomist will provide services according to the permissible scope of Phlebotomy practice, in alignment with Institution policies and procedures. Duties and responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to, the following:Perform venipuncture and finger sticks using standard equipment: vacutainer tubes, sleeves, tourniquets, blood culture tools, syringes, and butterfly needles.
    • Clearly communicate upcoming procedures to patients/youth.
    • Gather and distribute specimens for lab tests following testing requirements.
    • Centrifuge, label, and securely store blood samples for future analysis by CCHCS Clinical Lab staff or external labs.
    • Maintain inventory, ensuring supplies are stocked and hand trays are prepared.
    • Follow Institution's procedures or standard phlebotomy practices for patient/youth identification.
    • Assist Nurses, Medical providers, or lab personnel with blood draws, especially from "hard to draw patients," while maintaining precise records.
    • Collect blood specimens from patients/youth in various conditions.
    • Comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
    • Process non-blood clinical specimens for testing or send-outs.
    • Accurately record test orders in the electronic system per protocol.
    • Handle and label biohazardous specimens appropriately.
    • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
    • Perform well under stress, critical or unusual situations, where speed and meticulous attention to detail are vital.
