    Job Description

    Garden City Community College is a vibrant and dynamic community college located in the heart of the rural Southwest Kansas high plains region. Officially designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the College serves a student population which reflects the area's rich diversity. The College serves approximately 2,000 students across multiple populations including on-campus, online, and area high schools and has a history of strong program options in both transfer and technical education. The College is located in Garden City, a community with a recent history of robust population growth. Garden City has many amenities including arts and culture, plentiful shopping, and daily jet service to Dallas.

    This position is designed to strengthen the College's commitment to Nursing education through student learning via the Nursing simulation lab. The successful applicant will teach and/or coordinate all activities in the Nursing simulation lab for all students within the Nursing and/or Allied Health programs. Applicants with appropriate graduate-level degrees and clinical experience in the Nursing field will be considered, especially experience teaching at the community college level in diverse student environments (academic preparation, gender, age, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, etc.). Additionally, applicants with demonstrated experience in leading training or educational sessions within the Nursing and/or Allied Health fields will be considered.

    This position is a full-time, 172-day contract position under the faculty Negotiated Agreement. The successful applicant will receive tenured status upon receipt of their fourth continuing contract. Supervision provided under the direction of the Director of Nursing Education, the Dean of Technical Education & Workforce Development, and the Vice President for Instructional Services. The primary assignment is to provide instructional services and learning facilitation for students in the Nursing program.

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    This assignment includes (but is not limited to) the following:

  • Coordinating all healthcare simulation activities in the Nursing Simulation Lab
  • Assisting with video recording and debriefing events with simulations
  • Collaborating with other Nursing faculty on the identification of student learning outcomes (SLOs) and program learning outcomes (PLOs) that are used as a guide for simulation experiences.
  • Working with Nursing faculty on the curriculum map to show direct purposeful activities to enhance learning as well as validation of learning to improve critical thinking skills
  • Assisting with clinical groups as needed at local and regional clinical sites
  • Meeting weekly with Nursing faculty to plan and schedule upcoming simulation scenarios, including faculty needs and expectations
  • Facilitating and exploring options for simulation needs of industry partners for shared use of simulation lab
  • Evaluating opportunities for new or replacement technologies for integration into the simulation lab
  • Maintaining and organizing inventory of lab supplies
  • Facilitating the maintenance and repair of all simulation lab equipment and supplies, including mannequins
  • Integrating appropriate technology for class demonstrations, labs, and instruction for all levels of courses taught in Nursing program
  • Participating in course and curriculum design, student advisement, program review and college committees as required to maintain and improve the learning program
  • Developing and implementing appropriate skills remediation sessions/activities with Nursing students
  • Remaining current in subject matter and in the techniques most effective to promote student learning.
  • Participating in staff and college meetings and contributing through appropriate committee assignments.

  • Knowledge and Skills Required Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience in the healthcare industry
  • Current RN licensure in state of Kansas
  • Master's of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN) from accredited university
  • Desired or Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior clinical teaching experience in Nursing or Allied Health
  • Ability to motivate and teach students of diverse learning styles and backgrounds
  • Knowledge of computer-assisted learning strategies
  • Commitment to the Nursing field through involvement in professional organizations and activities
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Physical Requirements
    Ability to stand and sit for extended periods; speak and hear clearly in group settings and at distances of 30 feet; maintain physical mobility, alertness, and composure; utilize appropriate presentation materials and equipment; and transport self and equipment to various campus/community/clinical/area sites as needed.
