    Position Summary
    The Director of Finance provides strategic and operational financial leadership for the organization, overseeing all accounting and financial management functions to ensure accuracy, integrity, and transparency. This role is responsible for maintaining strong internal controls, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and delivering timely, decision-ready financial information to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
    The Director of Finance serves as a key partner to the CEO, auditors, and program leadership, aligning financial stewardship with the organization's mission, values, and long-term sustainability.
    Key Responsibilities
    • Oversee all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, and cash management
    • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closes
    • Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and appropriate segregation of duties
    • Supervise, mentor, and develop finance and accounting staff; establish clear workflows and accountability structures
    • Oversee financial aspects of contracts, including monitoring renewals, analyzing terms, and supporting contract negotiations to ensure fiscal responsibility and mission alignment
    • Prepare and review GAAP-compliant financial statements in accordance with FASB ASC 958
    • Produce clear, board-ready financial reports, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and key financial indicators
    • Manage the annual audit process, including preparation of schedules, coordination with auditors, and follow-up on audit findings
    • Oversee preparation of IRS Form 990 and related regulatory filings in collaboration with external advisors
    • Ensure compliance with Department of Education, federal, state, and local financial, contractual, and regulatory requirements
    • Lead the annual budgeting and reforecasting process in partnership with senior leadership and program directors
    • Monitor budget-to-actual performance and proactively identify financial risks and opportunities
    • Develop financial forecasts, cash-flow projections, and scenario models to support strategic planning
    • Provide financial analysis to inform program expansion, resource allocation, and long-term sustainability
    • Oversee financial compliance related to Medicaid, private insurance, and Department of Education payer or other funding streams
    • Ensure accurate financial processes supporting billing, reimbursement, and revenue recognition for insurance-funded services
    • Partner with clinical, operations, and billing teams to ensure financial practices align with payer requirements and regulatory guidance
    • Identify financial risk areas related to reimbursement, denials, recoupments, and compliance findings, and implement corrective actions
    • Stay current on changes in reimbursement regulations and funding requirements and assess financial impact on programs g
    • Ensure accurate accounting for restricted and unrestricted funds
    • Oversee grant and contract accounting, including allowable cost tracking and funder reporting
    • Ensure appropriate release of donor restrictions and compliance with grant and contract terms
    • Partner with development and program teams to align fundraising activity, spending,
    • Manage and optimize accounting systems and financial software
    • Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies and procedures (e.g., expense reimbursement, procurement, revenue recognition)
    • Strengthen financial processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability
    • Maintain documentation to support audits, compliance reviews, and internal controls
    • Serve as a financial thought partner to the CEO and senior leadership team
    • Support the Board of Directors and Finance Committee through preparation and presentation of financial materials
    • Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders
    • Promote a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical financial stewardship across the organization
    Qualifications
    Required
    • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
    • Minimum of years of progressive finance or accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (FASB ASC 958)
    • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, audits, financial reporting, and internal controls
    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
    Preferred
    • CPA or equivalent professional credential
    • Experience with restricted funds, grants, and government contracts
    • Experience supporting Boards or Finance Committees
    • Familiarity with nonprofit financial systems and ERP platforms
    • Experience book Keeping with NEtsuite
    • Experience in healthcare, education, behavioral health, or human services settings
