    Description
    This is technical work pertaining to the investigational and educational activities of Environmental Health.

    The Sanitarian team conducts comprehensive investigations across a spectrum of environmental health domains, such as hazardous materials, food protection, and pollution control.

    They assess factors that impact public health and well-being, providing recommendations and issuing corrective orders as necessary.


    Additionally, the Sanitarian team plays a pivotal role in program planning and implementation, contributing expertise to improve and promote environmental health initiatives.

    They serve as a vital liaison, consulting with various stakeholders with a vested interest in environmental health activities. Work is performed within the framework of existing laws, ordinances, policies, and regulations.


    TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Investigates by observing, sampling, testing, and reporting in areas such as:

    o Hazardous materials

    o Food protection

    o Lead poisoning prevention

    o Swimming pool and public bathing area sanitation

    o Insect and rodent control

    o School and institutional sanitation

    o Public health nuisance control

    other factors of the environment that cause or have deleterious effect upon the health and wellbeing of the public.

    Prepares reports and recommendations concerning findings of investigation duties necessary to correct conditions and practices in violation of regulations.
    May conduct special surveys; makes reports and recommendations concerning findings.
    Issues orders to correct conditions and practices that are found to be in violation of regulations.
    May monitor the progress of corrective measures.

    EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE


    Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in the Physical, Chemical, or Biological Sciences, Public Health, or Environmental Science; Experience with investigation duties in environmental/public health preferred.

    In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate's degree in public health, environmental health, or closely related field, along with an additional 2 years of work experience in these or directly related fields may be substituted.
