    Job Description and Duties

    Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

    This recruitment may be used to fill positions in Medical, Dental, and/or Mental Health in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting.

    Under the direction of the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE), the Supervising Registered Nurse (SRN) III, Correctional Facility (CF) oversees the daily operations of a correctional facility nursing services program. The SRN III, CF is responsible for planning, assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of subordinate supervisors, nurses, and other assigned staff. The SRN III, CF receives, disseminates, and implements policies and procedures, applies supervisory rules and principles, assists in the resolution of labor relations issues, sets goals for self and others, and ensures the continuity of quality patient care. The SRN III, CF ensures the implementation of an effective training and competency validation program for nursing services. Actively participates and supports the Complete Care Model.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Possession of a current license issued by the State of California, Board of Registered Nursing, is required, and;

    Either I

    Experience: One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Supervising Registered Nurse II, Correctional Facility.

    Or II

    Experience: Three years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of a Supervising Registered Nurse I, Correctional Facility.

    Or III

    Experience: Four years of registered nursing experience (within the last ten years) in a licensed general acute care hospital, two years of which must have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity. (Possession of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in Nursing may be substituted for one year of general acute care hospital experience.)

    Candidates who are within six months of completing the experience requirements will be admitted to the examination, but they must complete all requirements before they will be considered eligible for appointment.

    Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
