    POSITION FEATURES:

    PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

    The professional registered nurse Outpatient RN CAP 1 is an entry level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This role is responsible for providing and coordinating clinically competent care for an assigned group of patients, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Delegation of tasks to direct patient care staff such as RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians may be required. As a member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) health care team, this position actively participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care outcomes and facility operations.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Works under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or other Registered Nurses to perform essential functions.
    • Collects and analyzes patient data throughout hemodialysis treatment, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans and notifying appropriate personnel.
    • Assesses patient/family learning needs, provides education, and ensures safe delivery of hemodialysis therapy.
    • Administers medications as prescribed, initiates emergency responses, and serves as a resource for the health care team.
    • Ensures correct laboratory procedures, collaborates with the Interdisciplinary Team, and updates patient care plans.
    • Raises patient awareness about transplant and treatment options.
    • Completes CAP requirements for advancement.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
    • Direct patient care involving heavy lifting and assisting with ambulation.
    • Requires prolonged standing and ability to bend over.
    • May involve moving equipment and lifting heavy loads.
    • Work environment includes temperature control and moderate noise levels, with potential exposure to infectious materials.
    • Combines desk work, computer tasks, and interactions with patients and staff.
    • Travel to training sites or other facilities may be necessary.
    • Ability to perform essential functions in different locations with similar physical demands.
    • Testing for Color Blindness may be required.
    SUPERVISION:

    Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as a Team Leader or Nurse in Charge after meeting specific requirements.

    • Completion of FKC education and training for new employees.
    • Minimum 9 months experience as a RN.
    • Minimum 3 months experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis as a RN.
    EDUCATION and LICENSURE:
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
    • Current state licensure and CPR BLS Certification.
    • Must meet practice requirements in the employing state.
    EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
    • Entry level for RNs with less than 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience in the last two years as a RN.
    • Minimum 9 months experience as a Registered Nurse (preferred).
    • Chronic/acute hemodialysis experience (preferred).
