    The King County Library System (KCLS) Systems Engineer is seeking an experienced Data Analyst.

    The Data Analyst supports innovation and organizational excellence as part of KCLS' Strategy team. This role performs complex analytical work to extract, clean, and synthesize data from databases, surveys, third-party applications, and APIs. The Data Analyst provides visualizations and written analysis of data findings to assist in decision-making. The position works closely with the Data Engineer and other subject matter experts to respond to requests from end users and support ongoing projects throughout the organization.

    • Collects, compiles, extracts, and organizes complex information and data from multiple systems into a variety of summary and detailed reports/presentations.
    • Performs complex statistical analysis, interprets findings, and makes recommendations based on research, analysis, and best practices.
    • Designs and creates reports in Microsoft Power BI that include analysis of internal and external data sources.
    • Works directly with stakeholders, internal customers and end users to understand needs and use cases, to develop analysis and reporting plans, and to solicit feedback on reports.
    • Develops written documentation, internal operating procedures, user manuals, and instructions to facilitate maintenance and use of data and reports.
    • Works closely with the Data Engineer throughout the cycle of analysis and reporting. May consult data owners and other subject matter experts in the normal course of work.
    • Contributes to procedures and best practices for growth and use of KCLS' data warehouse, adhering to KCLS policy and under the oversight of the Data Governance Council.
    • Provides analysis to support feasibility and research studies, community profiles, business metrics and staffing analyses, and program/process/outcome evaluations.
    • Identifies, analyzes, documents and tracks data integrity, usability, and performance. Investigates and resolves data, reporting, and system inconsistencies.
    • Contributes to organizational strategies and procedures in areas of assignment, including data management, governance, and literacy. Supports development of related knowledge and skills in KCLS staff by recommending or providing resources, training, guidelines, methodologies, or tools.

    Desired Minimum Qualification:Education and Experience

    The items listed below are the minimum requirements for the job and are relevant to this position. The organization values both work experience and education and realizes that individuals take different paths to acquire knowledge.

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school with major in data science, statistics, or related field preferred.
    • Two or more years' experience in data analysis of increasing complexity, including coursework or experience in statistical analysis.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position will be considered.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Experience using advanced Microsoft Excel functions.
    • Experience using a database querying language (preferably SQL)
    • Experience creating reports and dashboards using a visualization platform (Microsoft Power BI strongly preferred)
    • Experience utilizing APIs.
    • Experience in a government environment is preferred.

    Professional Licenses and Certifications

    • Certification in data science, data visualization, or related credential preferred.

    Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires a strong team orientation. Some pressure from deadlines or changing priorities exists and interruptions to workflow can occur.
