    POSITION RESPONSIBILITES


    The Reserve Alternative Repose Unit EMT is responsible for providing transportation services in a safe, professional manner for persons seeking shelter to the Sobering Center.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES
    Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.

    Works under the general supervision of the Reserve ARU Supervisor or Deputy Chiefs.

    Operates a City owned passenger vehicle in a safe, professional manner.

    Assists with passenger loading & unloading from vehicles.

    Follows assigned routes and responds to calls for pick up.

    Demonstrates an understanding & sensitivity of the needs of the individuals in need of transportation.

    Completes thorough vehicle pre-trip, post-trip, and inspections as required.

    Ability to understand the English language to include traffic signs, signals, maps, manifests, and schedules.

    Keeps the vehicle clean and ready for pick ups.

    Completes paperwork as required.

    Completes basic evaluations to meet the Sobering Centers admittance criteria.

    Check and maintain all medical equipment during assigned hours.

    May assist to coordinate or instruct other personnel, as assigned.

    TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
    Radios, cellphones, tablets or other electronic devices as required. Janitorial and cleaning supplies. Safe vehicle operations. All medical assigned equipment.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally drag up to 200 pounds.

    Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


    WORK ENVIRONMENT


    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.

    The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, heated environment, cold environment, and fumes or airborne particles.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate


    QUALIFICATIONS


    This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy which includes, pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.

    Have a valid High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

    Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for the past three years


    All candidates must:

    • Must successfully pass an entrance exam
    • Successfully pass a series of interview panels
    • Pass an extensive background check
    • Pass a pre-employment physical examination
    • Pass a pre-employment drug screen
    Be 18 years or older at the time of employment.

    Be able to read and write the English language.

    Have a working knowledge of driver safety, CEVO class preferred.

    Knowledge of City of Farmington streets

    Must have and maintain NM EMT basic or above licensure.

    Have the ability to act effectively in emergent and stressful situations.

    Have the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

    Have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

    Have the ability to establish effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the general public.

    Comply with the City's Environmental, Health and Safety program


    A returning Reserve employee may not be required to take the entrance exam or interviews at the discretion of the Fire Chief.
