Dishwashers are the foundation of a successful restaurant. Neither the kitchen, or the dining room can function without clean plates and utencils. As a dishwasher, you learn about proper cleaning, health, and safety procedures in the food industry. You will also be an important part of a strong team, and have the opportunity to learn and grow to other positions.

Job Description

The following position description is not all-inclusive and is subject to change.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Dishwasher & general Utility position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness & sanitation standards for china, glassware, tableware, cooking utensils, etc., using machine & manual cleaning methods.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure:
• All china, glassware, tableware, & cooking utensils are sparkling clean, stocked, organized & accessible
• Walk-in, dish room & dry storage floors are maintained clean
• Sort, rack & rinse dirty dishes, glass, tableware & other cooking utensils
• Sort & stack clean dishes. Carry clean dishes to line & other storage areas.
• Change dishwater in dish machine every hour
• Replace cleaning & sanitizing chemicals as needed
• Assemble/disassemble & clean dish machine
• Notify KM anytime dish machine wash or rinse cycle falls below safety standard temperatures
• Fill & empty three compartment sink with cleaning/sanitizing solutions as needed
• Wash pots & pans by hand as needed
• Remove trash & garbage to dumpster. Sweep up trash around exterior of restaurant & garbage dumpster
• Sweep & mop floors
• Sort, distribute & stock food deliveries
• Work as part of a team, communicating clearly and constructively.

• Be on time for work
• Maintain a positive, fun-oriented attitude to your work
• Keep yourself, your uniform and your work areas sparkling clean at all times
• Strictly follow all uniform standards
• Be on time for work
• Know and ensure delivery of Silver Diner Brand Service Standards

COST BALANCING:

• Handle dishes carefully to avoid breakage
• Strictly adhere to cleaning/chemical solution guidelines

Other Duties & Tasks:

• Perform any additional duties or tasks as reasonably assigned by managers.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

• Floors are consistently clean and free of debris
• Clean dishes are available in advance of need
• Feedback from team members on cleanliness.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

Silver Diner values education from on-the-job learning demonstrated through consistent career growth as well as formal education. Must be able to understand workplace safety and understand labels on chemicals.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Prior experience is preferred but not required for this position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The work area includes: food, refrigeration, ovens, broilers, flattops, dish machines, steam tables, microwaves, knives, toasters, syrup dispensers, plates/bowls, slippery floors, and, at times, high temperatures. It is a physically intense environment requiring stamina and the ability to tolerate heat, walk-in coolers, lift/maneuver boxes & trash cans weighing up to 50 pounds, and stand/walk on hard surfaces for 10-12 hours per day. Able to continuously reach, bend, lift, carry, stoop and wipe. Able to tolerate proper use of cleaning & sanitizing products.
