    The Global Employment Law ("GEL") Counsel role is part of a truly global, data-driven employment law counseling team supporting a purpose-driven company. The GEL Counsel provides legal advice and counsel to Human Resources clients and assigned business units to ensure employment law and ERISA/benefits compliance nationally involving a range of issues such as: EEO, ADA, Title VII and FLSA compliance, employee relations and disciplinary issues, reductions in force, internal investigations, and ensuring U.S. employee benefit plans and their administration comply with ERISA.

    • Provide employment law advice and counsel to Human Resources, GSK's US Commercial business, US Supply Chain and US R&D teams;
    • Identify, research, track, and strategically counsel on new and existing US and state legal and regulatory requirements applicable to GSK's nationwide workforce;
    • Monitor changes in statutory and regulatory requirements and agency guidance;
    • Understand and use data analytics in partnership with the GEL Data Analytics team to inform risk assessment and decision-making;
    • Deliver proactive training and education informed by data analytics to empower leaders with knowledge and partner with the business to develop solutions;
    • Assist other Global Employment Law attorneys with projects for various GSK teams on an as-needed basis;
    • Develop, draft, and support implementation of employee policies and employment documents;
    • Working closely with support of GSK legal partners and external counsel, support GSK's HEAR Program, including attorney demands, EEOC charges, early dispute resolution, mediation, and preparation for arbitration;
    • Working under the direction of a lead lawyer and with support of external counsel, provide advice and counsel to ensure the design and administration of U.S. benefits plans and executive compensation arrangements comply with ERISA and other applicable federal and state laws.


    The position will be based in the Durham, NC area. Secondary consideration will be given to a location in the Philadelphia, PA area.

    Why You?

    Basic Qualifications:

    We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
    • Degree from accredited law school.
    • 3+ years of employment law practice experience in a law firm or in-house.
    • Member in good standing of a U.S. state bar.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
    • Experience advising and counseling on a broad range of employment law issues such as Title VII and related state EEO laws, ADA compliance, federal and state leave laws, whistleblower protections, restructuring/reductions in force, immigration, wage and hour requirements, employee relations investigations and employee discipline;
    • Experience advising and counseling on U.S. employee benefit plan issues such as ERISA compliance, fiduciary responsibilities and governance committees, and tax implications of executive compensation agreements and programs;
    • Experience advising on U.S. regulatory compliance programs such as OFFCP compliance and Affirmative Action Plans;
    • Experience drafting and revising multi-state people policies and procedures;
    • Experience using data analytics in the legal setting;
    • Strong project management skills and attention to detail;
    • Active listening and excellent written and oral communication skills;
    • Skilled at resolving complex issues and thinking creatively;
    • Ability to be self-directed and work in team settings across disciplines;
    • Excellent judgment and exceptional integrity;
    • Skilled at client communication and relationship-building;
    • Ability to build a strong GSK business acumen.
