- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

- Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (commonwealth title); or
- One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; or
- Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline.

THE POSITION
The Department of Transportation seeks a proficient Civil Engineer with a focus on Bridges to become part of their workforce. In this role, you will carry out technical tasks independently, under the supervision of a project manager, to create construction documents for various projects, including new constructions, reconstructions, and rehabilitations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
The main responsibility of this role is to prepare or review comprehensive sets of plans for bridge and structural projects. This includes reviewing complex projects like multi-span concrete or steel structures, as well as developing engineering calculations for simpler structures such as culverts, simple span steel and concrete bridges, and substructure units. The position requires the application of engineering practices and principles to make informed decisions and judgments regarding work assignments. Additionally, you will be responsible for reviewing bridge and structural design plans, including those prepared by consultants or in-house personnel. This may involve reviewing single span concrete or steel structures, as well as portions of multi-span concrete or steel structures. You will also be involved in plotting grades and calculating bridge geometry, as well as preparing detailed layouts for structural plans. Another important aspect of the role is computing and checking the quantities of materials used in bridge construction, such as structural steel, concrete, and other relevant items.
