    Responsibilities

    The Clinical Nurse Educator assesses, develops, plans, presents, and evaluates educational activities based on areas of expertise. The role collaborates with management, staff and advanced practice registered nurses to achieve goals related to learning and competence.

    Nursing education focuses on professional development of the nursing staff through orientation, continuing education programs and in-services related to changes that occur.

    Promotes the Norton Healthcare nursing professional practice model utilizing Dr. Kristen Swanson's Theory of Caring, while focusing on responsibilities, relationships, and communication.

    Demonstrates knowledge, skills and behaviors for the neonate/infant, adolescent, adult and geriatric clients as appropriate based on specific criteria and/or age specific considerations.


    Key Accountabilities:
    Combines clinical expertise with the teaching of others; conducts staff orientation, oversees in-services on new equipment and procedures, and provides educational programs for staff (at community, system, facility, and unit levels)


    Facilitator:
    Assists learners in identifying both their learning needs and the effective learning activities required to meet those needs.

    Facilitates educational programs and conducts literature search for committees, work groups or individuals, promotes effective teamwork, and participates in strategic planning.


    Change agent:
    Develops/assists in developing new policies, procedures, processes, and competencies. Works with staff to implement changes and provide training where necessary.
    Provides advice/information to help staff solve clinical practice problems, and assists in planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs. Evaluates programs and provides feedback to the educators.


    Researcher:

    Integrates relevant research outcomes into nursing practice and disseminates best practices to be used in patient care and staff development.

    Communicates in such a way that effectively utilizes the skill of aggressiveness, listening, empathy, problem analysis, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

    Builds trusting relationships through collaboration and consistent open and honest communication; provides follow up and feedback to all staff, management and physicians to enhance the vision and values for NHC and nursing education.

    Provides and supports organization and administrative structures to achieve department and organizational goals Mentors less experienced colleagues; participates in professional organizations; role models desirable qualities and actions; motivates staff to participate in activities related to professional development; collaborates to fulfill hospital goals; maintains appropriate competencies for educator role through continued professional development.

    Qualifications


    Required:
    One year as a registered nurse
    Bachelor Degree
    Registered Nurse

    Desired:
    One year in academic or clinical education, practice governance structures, or in area of nursing specialty
    Master Degree
