Wevise is a US-based nonprofit founded in 2022. Our mission is to make careers in the technology industry more attainable and create more diverse and inclusive tech communities through equitable access to mentorship, education, and career opportunities. We're a team of committed volunteers from diverse backgrounds who are passionate about leveling the playing field in tech (and beyond).

Our first program, which launched in June 2023, is a mentorship platform for those looking for personal or professional guidance in the technology industry, with a focus on those from disadvantaged communities or with additional barriers.

We believe in mentoring–so much so that we have brought a paired programming methodology to each of our roles. For every position, there is an expert mentor and an experienced mentee who will collaborate with and learn from the mentor along the way.

Each position is filled by two people (the mentor and mentee).

We are looking for a passionate experienced full-stack developer to join our team at Wevise. Although this is a volunteer position, the experience and opportunity to work with a startup in the tech industry will be invaluable for your career, and watching your work change lives will be incredibly rewarding

Responsibilities

• Each sprint, take on and complete various tasks listed on ClickUp by the sprint deadline
• Meet with your appointed mentee regularly to meet deliverables
• Communicate with your mentee throughout the sprint and review their code before pushing
• Communicate with the project manager and entire team as needed
• Be available to other less experienced team members if/when they have questions
• Attend bi-weekly tech sprint calls and bi-weekly all-team meetings (Wednesdays)
• Be involved as much as possible in general product and org discussions, and help spread the word about org needs and news via social media

Requirements

• You must be a motivated, driven, problem-solving developer eager to learn and willing to adapt to build modern full-stack solutions
• Minimum 3 years of real-world experience
• Experience building applications with popular technologies, frameworks, and libraries (React, NextJS, Tailwind, MySQL, Prisma etc.)
• Experience using NodeJS combined with ExpressJS backend environments.
• Good interpersonal communication skills
• Understanding of code reviews and pull requests
• AWS, Azure, GCP, or other Cloud service experience is a plus
• Contribute a minimum of 5 hours a week
• Have a github or past design work that you can cite
• Be able to collaborate, support, and work with mentees and make deliverables
