    Job Title: Finance & Research Analyst

    About the Department

    The School of Humanities and Sciences (H&S) is the foundation of a liberal arts education at Stanford. The school encompasses 24 departments and 24 interdisciplinary programs.

    Job Summary

    We are seeking a Finance & Research Analyst to manage all pre- and post-award activity in the department. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all sponsored research activity in the department comply with Stanford, sponsor, and government regulations.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Participate with principal investigator in the preparation of administrative components of proposals within parameters of sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelines.
    • Oversee and communicate submission process, both paper and electronic; review documents for completeness and compliance.
    • Develop, prepare, and finalize PDRFs, project budgets, budget justification, and other documentation as needed.
    • Serve as liaison and active partner between principal investigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and other departments; respond to sponsor inquiries.
    • Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Research to ensure that sponsor deadlines are met, awards are set up properly, and cost-sharing requirements are fulfilled; initiate cost transfers.
    • Review and approve expenditures on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis as needed; advise on post-award spending and commitment activity, and oversee compliance related to funds and revenue.
    • Develop and communicate reports supporting project status; create effective forecasting and decision aids.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree and three years of job-related experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Basic knowledge of governmental regulations.
    • Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate policies and procedures.
    • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
    • Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated proficiency in Excel and web-based tools.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with Stanford Research Administration and completion of Cardinal Curriculum I or the newer CRAFT Level I training.
    • Certified Accountant or Auditor or similar credential desired.

    Working Conditions

    This position involves working with minimal supervision, participating in group projects, and serving as a resource on subject area and overall technical resource to principal investigator and other university staff.
