    The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500.

    The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a .2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employees/contractors providing services to our local districts and students.

    The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.

    Purpose of Position: To provide teacher consultant/specialist services to school personnel who are responsible for providing educational services to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

    Period of Employment: 190 Days, 2024/25 School Year, starting August 2024

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Teacher Consultant: Possess credential necessary for Teacher Consultant for ASD approval preferred.
      • Michigan Teaching certificate with ASD endorsement and minimum of three years successful teaching experience.
    • Teacher Specialist option one: Possess either a valid Michigan teaching certificate or valid Michigan licensure, and be actively working towards an endorsement in autism spectrum disorder AND possess 1 of the following 3 requirements:
      • Masters' degree,
      • a minimum of 3 years satisfactory experience in education, not less than 2 years of which are working with students with autism spectrum disorder.
      • MDE teacher consultant approval.
    • Teacher Specialist option two: Possess appropriate licensure under Speech Language Pathologist, school social work, board certified behavior analyst, or school psychologist and demonstrates expertise in the characteristics of autism, evidence-based strategies to support students with autism, functional behavior assessment, school-wide positive behavior supports, individual positive behavior support plans, data collection and analysis, and coaching skills.
    • Proficient in the use of technology
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Must have regular and reliable attendance
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative manner with parents and professionals
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
    Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Provides instructional and evaluation services to students.
    • Provides consultation to classroom staff in areas such as instructional methods, evaluation, effective time management and problem solving/conflict management.
    • Participates as a member of a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) to assist in the evaluation of the educational needs of students.
    • Participates in Individualized Education Planning Team (IEPT) meetings as assigned.
    • Assists in the coordination of program/curriculum design, development, and implementation.
    • Assists in the coordination of assigned student activities.
    • Prepares reports to facilitate, document or evaluate programs and assigned duties.
    • Assists in staff development activities related to assigned duties.
    • Remains up-to-date on current methodologies and strategies for instructional programs for students with autism.
    • Works with community agencies to coordinate the delivery of services to students.
    • Develops, implements and evaluates applications of technology for instructional programs.
    • Assists in the coordination, development and implementation of transitional programs and services.
    • Consult regularly with the classroom teacher, other general and special education personnel, parents, and others to coordinate programs and services for students with autism spectrum disorder.
    • Evaluate, select, and maintain appropriate adaptive technology used by students with autism spectrum disorder in a school setting.
    • Assist teachers and school staff on the use of equipment and adaptations to accommodate the needs of students with autism spectrum disorder.
    • Coordinate appropriate services with outside agencies.
    • Serve as the regional source for development and delivery of professional development and parent trainings related to research-based interventions for ASD
    • Serve as a member of the EUPISD Upper Peninsula Autism Network (UPAN) team
    • Recommend research-based intervention techniques to student assistance and IEP teams
    • Assist local school districts in the integration of positive behavior and sensory supports to enhance placement in the LRE for students with ASD
    • As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours and travel within the ISD and state
    • Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all times
    • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
