- Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).
- Accreditation: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
- Internship/Residency: Successful completion of residency program through one of the following:
- The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
- The Committee on Postdoctoral Training of the American Osteopathic Association.
- Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- License: Current license to practice medicine in any state, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia).
- Experience: Board eligible/board certified and Fellowship training
- U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen.
- English Language Requirement: Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
- Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
- Provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic; as well as provide feedback and consultation with the other services within the Buffalo VA Medical Center.
- The Physician will evaluate, triage, and prioritize requests from Primary Care providers and others for outpatient hematology/oncology subspecialty consultations.
- They will obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, order and evaluate appropriate laboratory testing, and plan and prescribe treatment for patients.
- The Hematologist/Oncologist will coordinate medical management and care with Primary Care providers and other medical personnel in a multidisciplinary health care delivery system.
- The Hematologist/Oncologist will perform administrative tasks as assigned, such as peer reviews and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE).
- Provide Hematology/Oncology on-call services as assigned.

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
