    Job Description


    The Medical College of Wisconsin, Department of Emergency Medicine, seeks an enterprising academician for a leadership role as Director of Research Training & Education.

    The Director of Research Training & Education will play a critical role in advancing the research, educational, and faculty development missions of Department of Emergency Medicine.

    In working with faculty, fellows, and trainees, and in collaboration with departmental leaders, the Director will help develop research scholars, promote research knowledge translation to stakeholder audiences, and increase the production of generalizable knowledge in the department.

    Our ideal candidate is an emergency medicine clinician with an active research portfolio.

    Summary

    General responsibilities include


    • Designing, implementing, and evaluating research skills development workshops and career development pathways for faculty and trainees with an eye towards increasing the quality and number of research projects and grant proposals.
    • Designing and implementing novel scholarship-focused fellowship and faculty development training programs.
    • Enhance scholarship in the department related to population health, social emergency medicine, mixed-methods research, and ethics through focused mentorship of faculty, developing cross-departmental and institutional collaborations, and personal research forays.
    • In collaboration with other faculty, facilitating research skills development and knowledge transfer by assisting with curriculum development for residents and trainees.
    • Liaising with educational leaders with the department and its divisions, as well as across MCW to identify and enhance training opportunities for residents, fellows, and faculty.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    • Design, implement, and evaluate research workshops and skills development programs for faculty, fellows, and residents.
    • Advise and support faculty on appropriate research design, methodology, collaboration and dissemination.
    • Mentor and advise faculty and residents on research career trajectories and pathways.
    • Assist in the development of career development pathways for research-oriented faculty, and a research fellowship in the department.
    • Oversee departmental participation in the Medical Student Summer Research Program.
    • Assist with overseeing research staff and infrastructural support provided to faculty, fellows, and trainees. This responsibility involves guiding the monthly research mission meetings, peer research consultation service, and quarterly research workshops.
    • As designated by the VCRS, serve in leadership role(s) on department research committees.
    • Along with VCRS, conduct ongoing evaluation of the implementation of mentorship programs within the Department with appropriate metrics.
    • Maintain a funded research portfolio.
    Resources and Reporting

    The Director of Research Training & Education will have appropriate negotiated protected time for administrative duties. In addition, they will be supported by dedicated research and educational staff within the department. The Director will primarily report to the Vice Chair for Scholarship and Research.
