    We are looking for a Senior Thermal Process Specialist to join our team in Omaha, Nebraska. You may also be remote but prefer you work from the Omaha office.

    As the Senior Thermal Process Specialist, reporting to the Manager Thermal Processing, you will be the primary technical resource for assigned facilities to establish and implement thermal processes for high and low acid hermetically sealed, shelf-stable products. You will monitor and improve thermal processing systems in the Conagra facilities, ensuring that facilities operate in compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. You will support Quality, Product and Packaging Development, Innovation and plant projects.

    Located along the Missouri River, our Omaha office is within walking distance to downtown shops and restaurants. Conagra's R&D facilities in Omaha are state of the art, including a large super lab, open benchtop space for prototype development, a top-of-the-line culinary kitchen, and a 50,000 square foot pilot plant.

    What you'll do:

    • Manage all aspects of thermal processing for compliance with regulatory requirements, filing thermal processes with the FDA, and functioning as a liaison between plants and corporate staff on thermal processing issues.
    • Evaluate data generated during temperature distribution and heat penetration studies through the use of related computer software.
    • Establish Thermal Process Schedules for canned foods basis analyses of data generated during heat penetration and Thermal Death Time studies.
    • Evaluate process deviations and participate in product spoilage investigations/disposition associated with thermally processed products.
    • Train and oversee Pilot Plant thermal processing personnel for safe operation of retort simulators.
    • Develop process metrics to anticipate potential problems and recognize existing problems that could affect product safety and quality; review and develop thermal processing procedures.
    • Support plant management through regulatory audits, plant inspector challenges and other thermal processing issues, and managing NR's (Noncompliance Record). Lead plant audits.
    • Organize implementation of corrective action responses to address thermal processing trends.
    • Support plant trial and commercialization CQV (Certification, Qualification, Validation) process for R&D and plant programs.

    What you'll bring:

    • BS in Engineering, Food Science or related field preferred. Equivalent industry experience will be considered in lieu of college degree. HS/GED required.
    • 5+ years of food industrial experience in thermal processing
    • Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food including process filing with FDA.
    • Understanding of food manufacturing processes and food safety.
    • Experience using a full range of statistical and analytical tools and fundamentals.
    • Experience using Calsoft, NumeriCAL and other thermal processing related software.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Work in and around cramped/confined spaces.
    • Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders
    • Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays to include loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.
    • Use of tools, equipment, and machinery.
    • Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to 6 hours as needed
    • May travel up to 25%. Locations include but not limited to California, Mexico, and Canada.
    • Exposure to food tasting and smells including all food allergens.
