- Field Leadership:
- Supervise and direct the work of the surveying crew.
- Assign daily tasks and ensure crew compliance with safety standards.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and contractors.
- Surveying Operations:
- Perform boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys.
- Operate surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS systems, and data collectors.
- Establish and maintain control points and benchmarks.
- A thorough understanding of infrastructure plans, horizontal/vertical.
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Collect, process, and ensure the accuracy of survey data.
- Maintain detailed and accurate survey notes and records.
- Collaborate with drafters or engineers to create maps and plans from field data.
- Compliance and Quality Control:
- Ensure all surveys meet legal, contractual, and project requirements.
- Resolve discrepancies or errors in the field.
- Implement and enforce safety procedures.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Inspect and maintain surveying instruments.
- Ensure equipment is calibrated and in working order.
- Communication:
- Report progress and issues to supervisors or project managers.
- Communicate with clients and project managers and stakeholders.
- Completion of Survey in agreed upon timeframe
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent (minimum).
- Formal training in surveying, civil engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Experience:
- 3–5 years of experience in surveying, with at least 1–2 years as a crew lead.
- Experience with construction, roadwork, or infrastructure projects is advantageous.
- Either currently a member of Operating Engineers Local 12 or the ability to join.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in operating surveying instruments like total stations, levels, and GPS systems.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) and survey data processing tools.
- Strong understanding of survey principles, math, and coordinate systems.
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver's license.
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) certification, LSIT (desirable)
- OSHA safety certification (advantageous).
