    Upward Bound (UB) and Upward Bound Math-Science (UBMS) programs provide academic enrichment courses and activities to high school students who come from low-income families and/or identify as first-generation college students.

    Selected UB and UBMS students are from Washington Technology Magnet, Hmong College Prep Academy, STEP Academy, and Roseville Area High School.

    The summer enrichment program focuses on enhancing the academic skills of the student and provides fast-paced, intensive academic coursework and other social, cultural, and recreational enrichment activities.


    We are hiring Summer Instructors (non-college credit) as Professional Service Contractors for the 2024 TRIO UB Programs Summer Enrichment Program starting June 17, 2024-July 26, 2024.

    There will be no classes on Juneteenth (Wednesday, June 19, 2024) and Independence Day (Thursday, July 4,


    The primary responsibility of the Summer Instructors is to develop and provide an interactive, hands-on summer academic curriculum for students.

    All teaching positions will be at Metro State University in St. Paul, MN every Tuesday - Friday.

    Salary Minimum Compensation:
    Mathematics, English, Science &

    World Language Summer Instructors:
    $3500 non-negotiable ($1,750 in June and $1,750 in July)


    Electives Instructors:
    $1,750 non-negotiable

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Attend a Summer Staff Orientation on Saturday, June 8, 2024.
    • Develop the subject content curriculum prior to the start of the program.
    • Attend staff meetings during the summer program.
    Required Qualifications

    An applicant must have strong knowledge of the subject content and the ability to teach high school students. Prior teaching experience, coursework in teaching methodologies, and a teaching license is strongly preferred though not required.

    Applicant must demonstrate the ability to:

    • Communicate constructively and effectively, especially in a cross-cultural environment.
    • Be sensitive, respectful, and understanding of the needs of economically and academically disadvantaged and ethnically diverse high school students.
    • Be confident in presentation skills and classroom management.
    • Have a positive attitude about teaching youth.

    The School/Academic Department:
    The TRIO Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math-Science programs are federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

    The programs are an equal opportunity educational program designed to generate the motivation of students to graduate from high school, enter college, and successfully complete a postsecondary degree.

    Metropolitan State University TRIO Upward Bound programs serve a total of 120 low/limited income and first-generation college-bound youth in grades 9-12 annually.

    All TRIO Upward Bound programming and activities are provided at no cost to the student.


    TRIO serves high school students with parent(s)/guardian(s) who are both low income (150 percent of poverty level) and first-generation college student (neither parent has earned a 4-year college degree).

    The students must be currently enrolled in the participating high school and have academic potential and determination to attend a post-secondary institution after high school.

    TRIO Upward Bound Programs are an intensive year-round long-term program and our students must be willing to attend events and participate fully in our activities.
