    Cancer Community Interventionist

Open Rank Faculty – Precision Health for Populations

University of Virginia School of Medicine and
University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center

The University of Virginia's 2030 plan recognizes Precision Health as a major societal challenge and an opportunity for multidisciplinary work that draws on our existing strengths. In partnership, the Provost and the Deans of applicable schools are making plans for multiple coordinated faculty recruitments to strengthen the research community focusing on Precision Health for Populations across the University. Faculty recruits will receive support from the Provost and from their school and will participate in the Precision Health for Populations Initiative.

Pursuant of this initiative, the Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS), School of Medicine, at the University of Virginia (UVA) and the UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center (UVACCC) will be inviting talented researchers to join an exemplary team of investigators to advance precision health strategies directed to cancer prevention and control and reducing cancer disparities. This is part of a major Grand Challenges research investment of over $50M in Precision Medicine/Precision Health.

Applicants will be sought at the rank of Assistant,Associate, or Full Professor with a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, ScD) to apply for tenure-track/eligible faculty positions supported under a newly announced Precision Health initiative. One of 3 anticipated appointments are expected to include: Cancer Community Interventionist (see below); as well as Cancer Epidemiologist, and Cancer Digital Health / Behavioral Health Interventionist.

    Cancer Community Interventionist

Researchers sought will be trained in implementation sciences and community-based research to join this UVA sponsored Precision Health Initiative to envision, plan and conduct innovative multilevel interventions that advance cancer risk reduction, early detection and outcomes in collaboration with the Cancer Center's Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) program and community stakeholders. The driving goals of this hiring initiative are to broaden our ability to effectively prevent, diagnose, and /or delay cancer processes or events in diverse populations by leveraging and adapting evidence-based interventions. Faculty hired under this initiative will have a primary appointment in PHS and membership in the UVACC's Cancer Prevention and Population Health research program. The successful candidate must have a proven track record of sustained peer-reviewed funded intervention research focused on cancer prevention, detection and/or access to care, and inequities linked to race, ethnicity, poverty, sex, gender and/or geography. Candidates must have a scholarly record of collaboration in multidisciplinary investigator teams informed by community needs and with key focal sites within communities such as healthcare practices, community centers, organizations, or neighborhoods.
