Shelter House Housing Stability VISTA

Shelter House offers a robust continuum of programs and supports focusing on emergency, stabilization, and long-term interventions in the areas of housing, employment, and mental health recovery.

In so doing, we help hundreds of men, women and children each year to overcome difficult barriers in their lives and move beyond homelessness.

VISTA members provide crucial and important roles in the organization, and community as a whole, to increase the capacity and breadth of services available to the most vulnerable.

We are thankful for our VISTA members who commit a year supporting our organization and dedicating themselves to our mission to end homelessness.

We seek VISTA members who are driven and dedicated, always putting in good-faith effort to perform their job duties.

We encourage our AmeriCorps VISTA members to go out into the world and absorb the lessons it has to offer Their service year is an opportunity for personal growth, and awareness building.

Therefore, we strongly encourage participating in trainings, webinars, outreach, and educational courses. Applications are reviewed immediately after submission, with a quick response time. Typically, a 2-3 day wait to schedule a Zoom interview.

Member Duties : The Housing Stability VISTA works directly with the Rapid Rehousing case management team to support clients after they have moved out of their experience of homelessness. In partnership with Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity, this position is in charge of the design, oversight, and coordination of Shelter House's furniture program. This includes soliciting local hotels, furniture and consignment stores, and stewarding community members for furniture and other household items, as well as scheduling the pick-up and delivery of all items. In addition, this position will develop a system to collect data and report outcomes of Shelter House programming.
