    Who we are:

    Ability Beyond Barriers, formerly Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs is a non-profit organization providing services and support to individuals with intellectual and related disabilities, head and spinal cord injuries, and autism in Horry and surrounding counties. We work collaboratively within our community to develop a comprehensive network to enhance the lives of the people we serve.

    A person committed to serving our individuals by providing person-centered care to meet the needs of individuals with intellectual and related disabilities, head and spinal cord injuries, and autism.

    Examples of supports provided:

    • Listens to those receiving services and supports them in the areas that are important to them, demonstrating respect & dignity.
    • Supports those receiving services to develop/refine identified skills for them to live with optimal independence in the community by assuring all identified guidance is consistently provided.
    • Assists those receiving services to enhance their exposure to a variety of community activities, services, events, etc.
    • Supports those receiving services to develop relationships in the community to assure an ongoing support network.
    • Routinely supports those receiving services to exercise their rights and, when necessary, advocates for the protection of their rights.
    • Assists individuals to take prescribed medications, based on their abilities, while assuring medications and administration records are maintained according to guidelines/standards (when certified as a Medication Technician).
    • To assure continuing & on-going supports for those receiving services, maintains/completes all documentation regarding training, care, and medication administration as required.
    • Develops and maintains positive relationships with those receiving services, their families/support network, and co-workers.
    • Supports those receiving services to have the best possible health.
    • Assists/Supports those receiving services to maintain their living environments in a safe, clean, and organized manner.
    • Supports those receiving services that have adaptive equipment (e.g., wheelchair, hearing aid, C-PAP machine, etc.) by assuring the equipment is available, in good repair and used as scheduled/appropriate.
    • Supports those receiving services to assure thorough hygiene and appropriate attire at all times to enhance their community inclusion and involvement.

    Assures the supervision plan of each person receiving services is consistently followed.

    • Utilizes sound judgment when making decisions.
    • Demonstrates a desire to function as a team player, who always has the best interest of the individuals as a priority.
    • Demonstrates an understanding of the need for effective implementation & documentation of services & supports provided.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • A high school diploma or GED, previous work experience in similar programs, a valid South Carolina driver's license with a good driving record, and complete in-service training

    Compensation & Benefits

    • $15.38 per hour worked.
    • Paid Vacation, Paid Sick, and 13 Paid Holidays. Accrual of paid time off and paid holidays begins after the employee's 31st day of full-time employment. The accrual amount for Annual and Sick Leave increases with years of service. Within a full-time employee's first year, two weeks of annual leave and one week of sick leave accrues.
    • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance coverage is available through the South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority. Coverages offered for Employee Only, Employee and Spouse, Employee and Child(ren), and Full Family. A list of premiums is available through the Human Resources Department.
    • All full-time employees are required to participate in the State Retirement Systems Pension Program. The current percentage contribution is 9% per pay period. The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority also offers 401k plans.

    Monday: 10:30 pm to 8:30 am
    Tuesday: 10:30 pm to 8:30 am
    Wednesday: 10:30 pm to 8:30 am

    Friday: OFF
    Saturday: 10:30 pm to 8:30 am
