    The Challenge Ahead

    includes building our new cross-game, cross-platform digital economy platform.

    This large-scale, always-on collection of Java/Kotlin and GO-based services will power the virtual-economies of EA's network of games, experienced by tens of millions of monthly active users.

    You will build platform capabilities handling several hundred-thousand requests per second, driving the player engagement of many of the industry's most popular titles.

    You will build server-side systems that deliver new functionality within the larger Digital Platform and work on regular improvements to the systems to keep them at top-notch performance.

    As a Senior Software Engineer, you will report to the Director of Engineering. You will lead the software design and architecture process of our services, while optimizing performance and scalability.

    You will work with product managers to develop new features, supporting EA's many games and reducing technical debt associated with legacy systems through innovation and automation.


    Responsibilities:


    You will lead the technical design and architecture of major components in our large-scale distributed backend service, creating new features and updating existing ones.

    You will work with customers and business leaders to understand customer needs and delivering incrementally on their highest priority features and requirements.

    You will spend 40%-60% of your time hands-on coding.
    You will provide occasional off-hours support for development needs and the live environment.

    Qualifications:
    9+ years of experience developing object-oriented software
    Demonstrated ability in Java/Kafka/Golang
    6+ years of experience working on online services (HTTP via REST) at Internet consumer scale
    Technical leadership or mentoring experience

    Expertise in many disparate technologies, typically ranging from front-end user interfaces through to back-end storage systems and all points in between.

    Strong understanding of DevOps, Continuous Delivery, and Agile development
    Experience working on high traffic services and highly scalable systems (hundreds of thousands requests per second)
    Experience with technologies such as memcache, queuing, and NoSQL in production systems and other OSS tech

    Bonus:
    Experience with one or more scripting languages
    Experience with Maven/Gradle
    Experience with Eclipse or IntelliJ IDEA
    Experience with load testing and system analysis
    Experience with other languages such as C++ or C#
    Some experience leading or guiding engineers
    Experience working with remote teams
    Domain experience in economics, commerce, or fraud area

    US COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
    The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these states.

    Salary offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.


    BASE SALARY RANGES
    California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs.

    Sacramento):
    $149,150 - $233,500 USD Annually
    Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA.

    We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.

    Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
