    Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research & Creative Activity – University Faculty Only

    Brief Summary of Job Description
    The Division of Academic Affairs is seeking applications from current UNK faculty for a half-time Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research & Creative Activity (AVCRCA). The AVCRCA is responsible for supporting and growing a culture of research for the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). As the Senior Research Officer (SRO) at UNK, the AVCRCA is in charge of the Office of Sponsored Programs, Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity, Research Services Council, INSpRE Core, and Research Compliance. The AVCRCA will work with faculty, staff, and administrators to strategically implement policies, procedures, and programs to increase research production and quality on campus. The AVCRCA will have a robust understanding of federal, state, foundation, and agency funding priorities, as well as federal, state, and agency compliance issues. The AVCRCA interacts with other campuses in the Nebraska University system to facilitate collaboration on research and funding and advocate for UNK research at the state and federal level.

    Job Duties
    • Lead the division of research including Office of Sponsored Programs, Research Services Council, Undergraduate Research, Research Compliance and INSpRE Core. Work with personnel to create and implement a strategic vision for research and creative activity at UNK.
    • Support grant development at UNK by working with faculty and staff to learn funding needs, develop opportunities and advocate for specific grant requests that fit the UNK research strategy plan. Represent UNK at other system-level funding committees and discussions.
    • Authorize all research and creative activity grant submissions, awards, and outcomes. Provide letters of support on behalf of UNK. Ensure that all final reports and grant continuations are submitted and in compliance.
    • Represent UNK on the Federal Relations Team. Identify fundable projects that support the UNK strategic plan to forward to Federal Relations, work with UNK teams to make plans competitive and meet with federal relations teams to advocate for projects.
    • Ensure UNK's research compliance by working with the Research Integrity and Compliance Office. Support compliance with funder and University policies. The AVCRCA must stay apprised of changing federal and state regulations.
    • Coordinate and lead the construction of institutional grants including writing sections and facilitating group development and institutional commitment.


    Required Qualifications
    • Terminal degree plus over 10 years of experience in research development and grants management/proposal development.
    • Experience with research compliance systems and regulations (e.g. IRB, Conflict of Interest). Management experience.
    • Experience with undergraduate and graduate research publication. Experience with Federal and private granting institutions.

    • Previous administrative experience
    • Knowledge of research
    • Must have been a successful UNK researcher and grant writer
    • Federal grant experience
    • Federal Relations experience
