    JOB SUMMARY

    As an Operating Room Registered Nurse, you will independently plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care and policy and procedure. You should be comfortable providing direct nursing care to patients, and assume teaching and leadership responsibilities. You will participate in unit committee and quality improvement activities and only need minimal supervision.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Locate and document medical and nursing patient care information in the electronic or paper medical record.
    • Utilize appropriate interview techniques to obtain the patient history and provide appropriate intervention.
    • Identify standards of care common to patient population, i.e., age-specific, barriers to learning.
    • Deliver patient care and treatment using problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of medication dosages for patient population served, safely and accurately, and utilize available resources when questions arise.
    • Evaluate outcomes of care to determine if patient needs were met.
    • Complete chart forms fully, with no blanks left, and legibly.
    • Provide feedback regarding problems and complaints, and offer constructive suggestions. Use the chain-of-command for problem-solving and conflict resolution.
    • Complete care assignments in a reasonable amount of time.
    • Report on the care that should be provided and/or needs that have yet to be addressed to incoming shifts.
    • Follow hospital standards related to the Kronos system.
    • Accept responsibility for your own learning needs, attend courses and in-services offered, and maintain clinical skills specifically required on the unit. Maintain knowledge of current policies.
    • Be attentive to assignment activities and anticipate the needs of the surgeon and team members.
    • Act as a preceptor for new employees, coworkers, and students, and evaluate their performance by validating clinical and technical skills and interpersonal interactions.
    • Maintain communication with patients' families/significant others, as patients progress through the continuum of care.
    • Taking on call will be required.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida.
    • One-year recent OR experience required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification necessary from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
    • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification necessary from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
    • Intermediate computer knowledge required, with knowledge in: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
