    Job Description
    Upholstery Subassembler I - 1st Shift (Full Time)
    Department: All Openings, Manufacturing - Experienced

    Assists the Supervisor in the production of high-quality aircraft parts & subassemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.

    Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

    •Use of basic hand and calibrated tools.

    •Drill out and rivet aircraft parts and subassemblies, including those requiring use of small, portable assembly tools, and layout aids.

    •Assemble aircraft system parts and accessories using common fasteners such as nuts, bolts, washers and other hardware.

    •Apply sealants, adhesives, corrosion preventive materials and other compounds as necessary.

    •Perform basic Eastman operations.

    •Basic sewing machine setup and operation.

    •Lower panel and glareshield assembly on PA-28 model aircraft.

    •Ability to identify and select material based on production orders.

    •Ability to locate and read detail/minor assembly drawings and PPS with the use of work orders.

    •Maintain the department's compliance with Piper QAM/QIM and FAA requirements.

    •Rework discrepancies as necessary with guidance from higher level upholsterer.

    •Report machine/equipment malfunctions to senior assembler or Supervisor.

    •Participate in continuous improvement efforts to improve the team's performance including schedule delivery, reduction of late work, elimination of quality defects & scrap, increasing productivity and generating cost reductions.

    •Maintain compliance with all Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.

    •Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.

    •Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.

    •Perform duties as assigned by supervision.

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Related upholsterer experience requirements:
      • Upholsterer I: ≥ 1 year of experience
      • Upholsterer II: ≥ 1 - 2 years of experience
      • Upholsterer III: ≥ 2 - 5 years of experience
      • Senior Upholsterer: ≥ 5 years of experience
    • Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime.
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
    • Use of hand and power tools as required.
    • Follow all safety procedures.
    • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions.
    Physical Demands

    Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate job specific equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out, and below.
