**About the Safety Manager position:**
To drive key changes in the restaurant supply chain we must ensure that our employees, customers and products adhere to best in class safety practices. We deal with perishable food products, heavy machinery and last mile distribution. Without proper safety safeguards, these activities can lead to adverse events.
You will be a hands-on manager helping implement programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate and client policies. You will be accountable for the OSHA/DOT regulations at the regional level and will set the tone for Safety within the organization.
**Responsibilities:**
Ensure all safety manuals, programs, policies and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating locations.
Act as the resident expert in EPA, OSHA and DOT compliance and regulations
Ensure all new hires meet safety qualifications and certification for their role (e.g. CDL Class).
Ensure that Safety technology tools are used and those results are examined, trend data is analyzed and plans are developed to reduce and then prevent future safety incidents.
Oversee Corporate Safety Incentives and ensure programs are managed effectively and consistently, including assignment of Safety Points.
Maintain a consistent Safety Culture that incorporates operations, safety and maintenance departments.
Create and oversee all safety audits including those conducted by both internal employees and state / federal regulatory agencies.
Develop and implement core safety curriculum for delivery logistics and warehouse operations - including forklift training, defensive driving training, etc.
Review reporting of all vehicular, passenger and employee accidents/incidents for determination of root cause and action plan.
Partner with HR for OSHA LOG/Workers Compensation claims.
Create and maintain a safety playbook and modify based on local ordinances by region.
Provide functional expertise in safety regarding hiring of safety department exempt employees.
Ensure that all project training materials are up to date, that necessary supplies are available and that inventories are secured.
Develop all formal safety policies for the organization.
**Qualifications:**
BA/BS required.
OSHA certified.
5+ years experience in the transportation and warehousing industry.
CDL required - minimum CP, BPS strongly preferred
One-year accident/injury free driving experience.
Experience in high volume, fulfillment or manufacturing environment
Exceptional interpersonal skills working with employees and government agencies.
Able to quickly move between and prioritize tasks.
Experience managing a safety team of 3-5 individual contributors.
Experience teaching/instructing hourly staff
Computer literate with experience working with Microsoft or Google office suite products.
Experience working in a start-up environment - Advantage.
Experience in the foodservice distribution industry - Advantage
