    Senior Battery Engineer, Cell Development

    What we need:
    We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support our Cell Development R&D team.

    As a senior battery engineer you will lead projects to devise innovative cell designs, develop and specify new cell-build processes, and integrate new materials and components into our anode-less solid-state batteries.

    You will collaborate with the automation and metrology teams on cutting-edge automation cell assembly tools and inspection techniques, and you will facilitate a smooth handover of processes to production.

    A background in electrochemical energy storage mechanisms, especially in the realm of lithium-based batteries or analogous technologies, is a strong asset for this role.


    Responsibilities:

    • Lead projects on the integration and validation of new materials and components into next-generation cell platforms.
    • Design and implement innovative cell build processes supporting our cell development goals.
    • Analyze both electrical test and cell metrology data to identify key trends and inform new cell designs.
    • Use statistics to evaluate different approaches and compare the effectiveness of each.
    • Drive projects to completion through creative experiential design, iterative hypothesis testing, and thorough analysis.
    • Contribute to defining and validating specifications for scale-up production equipment, collaborating with both in-house teams and external partners.
    • Effectively communicate new findings to stakeholders

    Qualifications & Skills:

    • Bachelor's Degree in in Materials Science/Chemical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Chemistry/Physics + 5 years of experience. Master's Degree + 3 years of experience or PhD is preferred.
    • Proven track record of driving projects to completion with little oversight.
    • Solid understanding of electrochemical systems. Familiarity with battery test metrics.
    • Experience working on process development in an R&D context.
    • Strong data analysis and programming background, especially in Python.
    • Excellent communication skills. Ability to collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines through clear and concise reports and presentations.

    Preferred Requirements:

    • Solid foundation in statistics
    • Prior experience in mechanical design and hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical systems
    • Industry experience in lithium-ion batteries preferred.

    Compensation & Benefits:

    Salary range for this role is $125,000-$170,000, but a salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background.

    QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan.
