    Kenda American Technology Center (KATC) is responsible for advancing Kenda's global design capabilities and developing new automotive, power sport, and bicycle tires for the North American marketplace.

    Established in 2014, KATC is located in Akron, Ohio across I-77 from the Canton-Akron Airport. KATC currently has a staff approximately 50 (mostly engineers and technicians). Further growth is expected as Kenda expands its North American customer base. Departments include Tire Development, Tire Research, Tire Testing, and Tire Materials.

    Facilities include a Tire Testing Laboratory, Rubber Mixing Laboratory, and Material Analysis Laboratory in addition to the R&D office space.

    Position Overview

    Kenda's American Technology Center (KATC) is looking for a self-starting, organized, detailed-minded individual to fill a Mechanical Engineering position in the tire development group.

    The tire development group is responsible for developing automotive, powersports, and bicycle tires for the North American market. This group focuses on utilizing advanced computation and other CAD/CAE development tools to optimize the design of every tire.

    This particular position is within Kenda's automotive tire development group which focuses on developing passenger, light truck, and trailer tires.

    Engineers in this group are responsible for all aspects of the tire design process from concept all the way to seeing the tire through production startup.

    The ideal candidate for this role would have 5 plus years of experience developing passenger and light truck tires. This individual must also possess strong communication and problem-solving skills. In addition, excellent time management skills are needed to balance multiple tasks and deadlines.

    This candidate must be able to learn and utilize Kenda's advanced computer design and simulation software to optimize tire designs while also working with a diverse team across the globe.

    Education/Experience

    Required
    Bachelor's Science Mechanical Engineering degree
    5+ years of passenger and light truck tire development experience
    OE tire development experience is a bonus
    Responsibilities
    Develop the next generation of passenger and light truck tire lines
    Utilize advanced design and computational tire models to predict tire performance characteristics
    Create tire manufacturing specifications
    Create mold drawings for tire molds
    Work closely with Kenda manufacturing plants to assure tires are built to specification
    Travel to manufacturing plants as needed to oversee experimental tire builds
    Write test requests to evaluate the performance of tires
    Attend on vehicle testing as needed to obtain direct feedback on tire performance characteristics
    Analyze and summarize test results to determine if tire performance meets expectations
    Work with other team members in a collaborative environment
