    About the Position

    San Luis Obispo County Parks & Recreation Department is accepting applications for temporary/seasonal Lifeguard positions at various County-operated, pools, lakes, and beaches
    Typical Tasks and Representative Duties
  • Provides safe conditions for users of the beach by providing careful watch over beach activity from stationary posts.
  • Enforces County policies and regulations.
  • Provides lifesaving assistance to patrons in surf and open water.
  • Provides basic first aid to the public.
  • Distributes information such as schedules and activities.
  • Keeps accurate records, logs, and reports.
  • Maintains equipment and guard towers in orderly and safe conditions.
  • Leads Junior and Discover Junior Lifeguard Program and other similar activities and related duties such as promotion, scheduling, and development of aquatic-related activities.

    The Ideal Candidate

    Education and Experience

    One year experience as a Lifeguard I or equivalent is preferred.

    Licenses and Certificates

    Must possess and maintain a United States Lifesaving Association Ocean Lifeguard I, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Title 22 First Aid certifications at the time of appointment and throughout employment. An EMT certification can be substituted for the CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Title 22 requirements.

    OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Must be a minimum of 16 years of age and able to successfully complete physical agility testing. Employees in these classifications are required to work irregular hours, holidays and weekends. New employees are required to complete INS Employment Eligibility Verification forms to certify citizenship or legal residency and authorization to work. These are temporary appointments without benefits or tenure. Must also pass County pre-employment medical exam. All prospective employees must submit to and pass screening under Public Resources Code Section 5164 in regards to criminal offenses.
