    Licensed Practical Nurse (District)

    Job Summary:

    Under the direction of the school nurse supervisor, is responsible for providing nursing services to the Windsor Locks School System.

    This position is student need based and you will be required to move from school to school within the district.


    Essential Duties, Qualifications and Responsibilities:

    Direct Patient Care:

    • Assess, monitor, and manage students who come to the nurse's office.
    • Provide basic nursing care, including medication administration, treatment, and dressing changes.
    • Assist with emergency first aid and injury management.
    • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized healthcare plans.

    Health Promotion and Education:

    • Provide health education to students on various topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
    • Conduct vision and hearing screenings under the direction of the RN

    Administrative Tasks:

    • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records. (SNAP)
    • Manage medical supplies under the supervision of an RN.
    • Prepare reports for school administration and healthcare providers.
    • Stay informed about current health trends and best practices in school nursing.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Assist the School Nurse (RN) with other duties as assigned.
    • Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities.
    • Maintain a professional and positive demeanor at all times.

    Qualifications:

    • Current LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) license in the state of Connecticut.
    • Minimum of one year (preferred) experience working in a school setting or pediatric healthcare environment.
    • Familiar with state health regulations for public schools
    • Familiar working with adolescents who receive special education services or 504 accommodations.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving abilities.
    • Compassionate and patient nature with a genuine interest in working with children and adolescents.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in electronic health records and documentation software.
