    This virtual internship will support the AAMC Research and Action Institute (institute) by providing research assistance to the Executive Director and Senior Research Analyst. The Intern will help support the Institute's aim to deliver information and analysis on critical issues affecting U.S. health care, in a format that is easily accessible by a wide variety of audiences. This may include drafting research briefs, presentations, and reports.

    AAMC members, policymakers, and others turn to the AAMC for information, data, and advice on issues directly related to the missions of academic medicine (clinical care, research, education, and community collaborations). The AAMC aims to elevate its leadership role in policy and policy analysis through the AAMC Research and Action Institute. This small team within the AAMC is focused on addressing current policy issues through brief research papers aimed at policymakers and/or the general public. The Institute will build upon a long-standing AAMC strength of conducting and disseminating cogent research and analyses and informing and transforming practice and policy in U.S. health care.

    Development Opportunities:

    This internship will provide an opportunity to grow your skills in researching and writing on topics relevant to health policy. The internship will provide exposure to timely topics in health care and national data sources. This internship opportunity will also provide exposure to the activities of a membership organization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Contribute to research briefs by researching and writing on topics relevant to health care policy, financing, and/or economics
    • Conduct literature reviews on topics of interest to the AAMC Research and Action Institute
    • Attend internal and external meetings
    • Attend webinars to learn about topics in health care
    • Work concurrently on multiple projects and shift priorities as needed
    • Keep abreast of health policy issues by following press and trade publications
    Qualifications:
    • Strong communication skills (verbal, written, listening) and the ability to tailor communication to a variety of audiences
    • Experience conducting secondary research (can be in work or educational setting)
    • A strong interest in health care and health systems; the use of data in health policy and general interest in quantitative analyses
    • Only graduate students will be considered for this internship. Basic knowledge of the U.S. health care system is required. Will consider students in a variety of different graduate degree programs. Relevant graduate degrees include, MPH, MPP, and MHA
    Remote Work Eligibility

    This position may be eligible for remote work.

    Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point
    Grade Range:$ $26.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$22.00

    The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

    If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
