    About The Position


    The Staff Chemist position is responsible for providing technical assistance, support, and oversight for the implementation of the various chemistry programs to promote the safe, effective, and reliable nuclear plant operation.


    Key responsibilities include:

    • Provide technical assistance, support, and oversight for the implementation of the primary coolant chemistry, secondary coolant chemistry, closed cooling water chemistry, and open cooling water chemistry programs.
    • Provide technical assistance and support for the demineralized water system.
    • Provide technical assistance and support for the implementation of programs that ensure compliance with environmental regulations and the NPDES Permit.
    • Coordinate and implement the Hazardous Material Control Program.
    • Coordinate and implement the Chemical Control Program.
    • Coordinate and implement the Diesel Fuel Oil Testing Program.
    • Review and provide recommendations concerning the operation and maintenance of the station potable water system.
    • Review and provide recommendations concerning the operation and maintenance of the station wastewater treatment system.
    • Provide technical assistance and oversight in response to chemical spills.
    • Review chemical and radiochemical data for trends, potential problems, and compliance with limits.
    • Develop and supervise special projects for non-routine chemical and radiochemical testing related to plant systems in order to investigate problem areas and to provide corrective action recommendations.
    • Lead and coordinate special chemistry related projects.
    • Prepare reports on chemistry of plant systems and on special projects.
    • Provide technical assistance to Radwaste staff in the monitoring of liquid radwaste treatment system performance.
    • Assume Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties in accordance with Callaway Energy Center Radiological Emergency Response Plan (RERP) including responding to assigned ERO facilities within the required RERP response time.
    • Provide oversight for the development of new analytical procedures to ensure compliance with appropriate standards and to ensure the development of appropriate QA/QC requirements.
    • Implement the Callaway Chemistry Laboratory Quality Assurance (QA) / Quality Control (QC) Program.
    • Prepare reports on the laboratory quality control performance.
    Qualifications


    Bachelor of Science or higher degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biology or other related scientific field from an accredited institution required.

    Two or more years of relevant experience is required. In lieu of degree, candidates with 6 or more years of directly relevant chemistry experience may be considered. Chemistry laboratory or Chemical engineering experience preferred. Nuclear power plant experience preferred. Radiochemistry experience preferred.


    • Technical career path level depends upon applicant's credentials.
    In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

    Good decision making, verbal and written communication, and human relations skills required. Security screening required for Callaway Energy Center access.

    The Staff Chemist position works a standard day shift in an office/plant environment. Additional hours and/or rotating shifts may be required during refueling outages and emergent plant activities as the needs arise.
