    SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

    The Continuous Improvement Engineer contributes to project identification and definition. Develops, implements and/or supports assigned technologies, products, and processes. The scope of influence of this position will span Manufacturing, Quality, Corporate Engineering, Product Planning, IT, and Finance. Achievement of plant productivity goals is a key objective.

    • Responsible for moderately complex engineering projects.
    • Coordinates work within the scope of assigned projects to ensure objectives in terms of quality, cost, and time are met.
    • Prepares project schedules and reviews cost estimates, compiles required cost and equipment information, and writes appropriation requests.
    • Responsible for effective communication of engineering information among team members.
    • Follows the structure of Pella's Safety, Quality, Project Management & Continuous Improvement Systems from concept through project execution.
    • Serves as a resource to others as assigned, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist with projects.
    • Leads and coordinates all Continuous Improvement activities (daily activities, events, projects, and training) in assigned plant and ensures follow-up activities are completed and realized gains are maintained.
    • Responsible to foster and grow the continuous improvement culture (TPS) through developing problem solving and lean process improvement skills in the plant exempt and hourly team.
    • Project identification as well as personally leading and/or sponsoring Kaizen teams will be key activities.
    • Building excitement to inspire plant team continuous improvement activities is also a key role.
    • This position plays a key role in carrying out the organizations strategies to improve value to our customers by eliminating waste in processes.
    • Participates in or directs activities to improve products, processes and/or equipment through application of Kaizen techniques, including Product/Process Preparation events, 5S, standard work, and Value Stream Mapping, setup reduction, Lean Sigma, and other Lean tools.
    • Responsible for other projects/duties as assigned by supervisor.
    • Other duties, tasks, and projects as assigned.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Math, or relevant Science or combination of education and experience. Responsible for ongoing development of technical and leadership competencies.
    • 1-3 years combined engineering experience.
    • Experience leading/participating on a variety of CI events (2P, SUR, 5S, RQI, etc.)
    • Lean practitioner/leader/champion certification, six sigma or other problem-solving certification

    QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

    • Proven experience beyond education to support and deliver high quality products and processes through the application of engineering principles.
    • Exhibits competency and begins to develop expertise in multiple engineering technologies.
    • Performs work which involves conventional practice but may include a variety of complex features, such as conflicting design requirements, incomplete market requirements, unsuitability of standard materials and multiple project coordination.
    • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies engineering principles to product and process modifications.
    • Exercises independent judgment to define project objectives and engineering / scientific approach. Assignments may require development of unclear objectives and require investigation of multiple variables.
    • Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD (for layout adjustments)

    SUPERVISING RESPONSIBILITIES

    Primarily an individual contributor role; however, capable of leading a team in technical projects. May supervise non-exempt and hourly employees.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Periodically exposed to machinery where safe operating procedures must be followed. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Occasional lifting of materials up to 30 lbs.

    TRAVEL

    10% - 20% travel is expected for this position to alternate sites and suppliers based on business needs.

    LOCATION

    This position is based in Medley Florida - Miami-Dade County. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. It will be the responsibility of the successful candidate to arrange accommodation to Medley Florida.
