Founded over 80 years ago, the Wheaton Eye Clinic is a nationally recognized multi-subspecialty ophthalmology practice that spans the western suburbs of Chicago and is the largest independent ophthalmology clinic in the Midwest.
Our offices are located in Wheaton, Naperville, Hinsdale, Saint Charles, Bartlett, and Plainfield and an ophthalmology-specific ambulatory surgery center at the main office in Wheaton.
We currently have 34 ophthalmologists and 6 optometrists in every ophthalmic subspecialty are highly respected in the region and have superb relationships with referring colleagues and health systems.
Patients travel to Wheaton Eye Clinic from throughout Northern Illinois, as well as from across the United States.Our referring physicians locally, across the United States, and from many international countries, send their patients to Wheaton Eye Clinic because of its unwavering reputation for exceptional patient care.

Under supervision of the Physician Support Manager, this position is responsible for assessing the patient's situation by phone to determine the level of care required.
The ideal candidate will possess outstanding communication and customer service skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks within a designated time frame.
They will act as a liaison between patients and physicians and promote the Wheaton Eye Clinic's commitment to exceptional patient care.
Hours are:
Monday through Friday with one Saturday per month (occasional 2nd Saturday when there are five per month), one evening per week (until 8:00 pm), shifts start as early as 7:45 am and finish around 5:15 pm (on non-evening shift).
This role has the possibility of being remote/hybrid after being fully trained - 6 months - 1 year minimum.
o Through active listening, questioning and assessment, the Triage Medic will provide instructions to the patient based on physician-approved protocols, schedule an appointment, or contact the physician for direction as appropriate.
o Evaluate and determine if emergency care is needed in a hospital or clinic setting.
o Provide clear patient instructions and ensure that the appropriate standard of care for the specific situation is communicated to the patient.
o Assess and educate patients in an empathetic, efficient manner to determine the best course of action to resolve the issue.
o Listen attentively and ask the right questions to get the necessary information needed to make an accurate assessment.
Interpret subtle indications such as the tone of voice, hesitations, or incomplete responses to assist in gathering all necessary information.
o Accept incoming calls from emergency room physicians and staff.Obtain an accurate and concise history of the patient's condition and convey this information to the appropriate Wheaton Eye Clinic physician.
o Respond to incoming messages to the triage and all subspecialty pools.o Demonstrate the ability to make quick decisions, based on critical thinking skills, guidelines, and protocols.
o Assist with managing patient medication refill requests.
o Document patient education provided and the patient's response.
o Enter all relative information in the patient's chart in a timely manner.
o Assist with training Support staff to ensure patients are routed to the Triage
Medic when appropriate.
applicable federal, state, and local privacy regulations including the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule.
o May perform Ophthalmic Technician responsibilities when needed.
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent
