    Description


    The Middle School Assistant Principal works alongside the Principal to oversee the day-to-day operations of the middle school (5th-8th) and the success of the students.

    This role involves implementing and monitoring instructional initiatives as well as supporting the development of a positive school culture by working directly with the Principal, Instructional Coach, and Dean of Students.

    The Assistant Principals are critical members of the Building Leadership Team and play a critical role in the development of our teachers.

    Teams also work to involve families in support of students' academic and social development. They work closely with our Culture Team to address specific family situations that may affect school engagement.

    This is an especially exciting opportunity to serve as an important contributor to a high quality school community and growing organization.

    It is also a chance to be part of an overall team committed to doing everything possible to ensure our students leave our school prepared for the most challenging, college-preparatory high schools in the city of Indianapolis.


    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
    Participate in the design and implementation of systems to assess student achievement;
    In conjunction with the Instructional coach provide regular feedback and coaching to teachers.
    Facilitate weekly Lesson Plan Internalization meetings with classroom teachers
    Facilitate weekly data meetings, analyzing student work and developing reteach plans.
    Monitor implementation of school-wide curriculum and instructional initiatives .
    Conduct regular walkthroughs and provide feedback to teachers.
    Assist with planning and presentations at staff meetings and professional development.
    In conjunction with the Dean of Students, monitor and assure student compliance with school rules and expectations.

    Proactively circulate throughout classrooms and hallways during the day, to gain valuable context on student behavior and help support positive school culture.

    Supervise arrival, lunch, in-between class transitions, and dismissal, making sure students are always where they are supposed to be and ensuring a professional school culture at these times.

    Support the implementation of Restorative Practices.
    Support Principal in coordinating logistics and preparation for standardized and formative assessments.
    Build and maintain positive school culture in alignment of the USI Vision for School Culture
    Serve as emergency responder during drills and events.
    Assist with planning, coordination, and management of whole-school culture events.
    Fulfill Principal duties in absence of Principal. Collaborates with the Principal on other tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications:
    3+ years of teaching experience at a high-performing school;
    Experience providing feedback and coaching teachers toward strong, data-supported results;
    Strong content knowledge;
    Strong teaching skills in the classroom;
    Organizational skills; extremely careful attention to detail and follow-through;
    Analytical and problem-solving skills;
    Ability to work well in a team;
    Exceptional ability to bridge and enhance cooperative working relationships;
    Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, educational environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed;
