    The general salary range for this position is $93,000-$112,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.

    The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's most effective animal protection organization, is seeking a Program Manager, Talent Development for the Human Resources department.

    In this position you will contribute to the creation and implementation of global talent development and engagement programs and systems advancement and application, including management and leadership development, employee development, training, employee engagement, leadership coaching, and performance management.

    Develops and oversees projects in support of talent management efforts, contributes to fostering a culture of learning and employee growth.

    This position will engage and collaborate with internal and external partners and serve as the representative with outside vendors in furtherance of supporting new and innovated talent development strategies.


    This position will be responsible for:

    • Contributing to the development, direction and execution of employee engagement and culture evolution programs, including administration, communication, and action planning for our annual culture survey and follow up activities. Represent HR on employee engagement groups based on geographic areas to ensure support for teams and alignment to the greater talent management and HR strategies;
    • Managing, delivering, and monitoring learning and development programs and solutions, including our coaching program. This includes overseeing learning materials, program facilitations, and vendor management. Continuously monitor programs to ensure their success and identify opportunities for enhancement;
    • Supporting an innovative, effective, and equitable performance management process by assisting in the development and delivery of training, resources and tools for both leaders and employees. Contributing to the organization and oversight of critical steps in the performance management process, including stakeholder engagement, calibration, and communications;
    • Utilizing the learning management system and our third-party content to facilitate the design, development, and delivery of training curricula with a balanced focus on leadership development, management skills, compliance, furthering an inclusive culture, as well as individual employee skill and development needs;
    • Managing development plans and activities for employees identified as being succession planning candidates for mission-critical roles and key talent pools throughout the organization;
    • Partnering with managers, key stakeholders, and HR Business Partners to analyze staff learning needs based on performance, talent planning and assessment data and support the creation of individual development plans, where needed.

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in business, human resources, or relevant field, or equivalent work experience;
    • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in talent management related roles required;
    • SHRM-CP, PHR, CPLP and/or APTD certification(s) preferred;
    • Experience delivering training both online and in-person preferred;
    • Certification in facilitating Crucial Conversations preferred;
    • Demonstrated ability to develop, deploy, evaluate, and manage organization-wide talent management initiatives;
    • Familiarity with traditional, modern, and cutting-edge instructional design tools and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to build engaging, effective Computer Based Training (CBT) courses, workshops, and simulations;
    • Proven track record assessing current and future training needs, inclusive of job analysis, career-pathing, and skills-gaps analysis, combined with the knowledge and application of Instructional Design principles for adult learners;
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage vendors for training and development programs in a cost-effective way, including developing projects and proposals and securing funding for training initiatives;
    • Ability to take initiatives and create action plans that outline activities and milestones to ensure progress towards goals and objectives;
    • A high level of confidence, integrity, interpersonal skills, and professional presence for interacting with and influencing stakeholders at all position levels, internal and external to the organization, as well as for facilitating training and conducting public speaking/presentations;
    • Must be able to build/foster relationships by reinforcing trust, respect, and confidentiality, demonstrating high standards of tact, diplomacy, discretion, flexibility, and a willingness to learn;
    • Comfortable working independently, as an effective team member, and with all levels of the organization, in a fast-paced environment with frequent and competing deadlines;
    • Must possess the ability to manage issues requiring problem resolution and conflict management in difficult situations, with excellent composure, utilizing interpersonal and intervention skills, particularly in group settings;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to organize, present, and articulate ideas both verbally and in writing. The ability to demonstrate effective and credible presentation and facilitation skills is essential;
    • Creative, self-motivated, with a high attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
    • The ability to handle information of a sensitive and confidential nature, ensuring that such information is secured and maintained in an appropriate manner;
    • Strong analytical, decision making, and problem-solving skills, paired with the ability to think creatively for improvements and offer innovative solutions through quality judgement calls;
    • Technical proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Learning Management Systems, HR Information Systems, and other talent/performance management systems.
    This position is in the DC Metro Area- Remote Eligible
