About Locum Ophthalmologist Jobs:

General Job Responsibilities:
Diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of ocular conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
Conduct routine and specialized eye exams.
Perform ophthalmic surgeries, such as cataract removal, LASIK, corneal transplants and other eye-related procedures.
Provide patient education about eye conditions, treatment options, preventive care and post-operative care instructions.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
Respond to ophthalmic emergencies and provide immediate treatment or referral, if necessary.
Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
Skills:
Proficiency in diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye conditions.
Ability to expertly perform ophthalmic surgeries.
Adept at explaining complex medical conditions and treatments to patients.
Excellent manual dexterity and precision.
Possess collaborative skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Capable of managing multiple tasks and adapting to varying conditions and environments.
Flexibility to adapt to new work environments and different medical teams.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
Residency training program in ophthalmology accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
License & Certifications:
Board certification in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) or the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology (AOBO).
Active and unrestricted medical license in Alaska.
Experience:
While specific requirements may vary, most locum ophthalmology positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience providing care in a clinical setting.
