Job Description
Responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing and auditing environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs that meet internal requirements as well as compliance with government regulations and/or industry consensus requirements.
Maintains knowledge of current industry and regulatory EHS trends and provides subject matter expertise (SME) to plant in this area.
Assists with creating short and long range plans to continuously improve plant EHS practices and procedures. Assist with environmental duties as assigned or needed.Principle accountability is to promote a "best in class" EHS culture, obtaining cooperation and engagement from site leaders and employees in all job classifications.
Responsibilities
Review corporate policies/procedures and fire safety, life safety, environmental, industrial hygiene and hazardous material handling programs and implements to site level standards and requirements.
Develop and conduct requisite EHS training (New Hire Orientation, respiratory protection, LOTO, Confined Space Entry, electrical safety, hazardous materials shipping and disposal, and machine guarding).
Perform follow-up and ensure closure of safety related corrective and preventative actions (CAPA) and recommendations from various corporate organizations and internal/external audits as assigned by manager.
Perform various EHS related inspections for storm water, SPCC, hazardous waste, spill response, fall protection equipment, ladders, sprinkler systems, and etc.
Coordinate hazardous material shipments and complete environmental and hazardous material regulatory reporting as needed with manager oversight. Responsible for chemical hazard awareness, hazmat shipment oversight and contractor/constructions related safety programs. Follow up on inspection program findings as assigned. Good working knowledge of risk assessment tools and techniques (JHA, PHA, FMEA, and HAZOP) is required.Qualifications
Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree - EHS, engineering, or closely related discipline required. Master's Degree in EHS preferred, 5 -7 years' of progressive experience in a safety, industrial hygiene or environmental role. Knowledge of FDA, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations and requirements. Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills are a must. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines. Proven track record of leading successful EHS teams and/or committees.
Computer and application proficiency needed, as well as knowledge of EHS management systems (ISO 14001, ISO 18001, and ANSI Z10).
Experience with implementing behavior based safety (BBS) systems and processes. A CIH, CSP, CHMM, QEP or similar certifications preferred. First aid/CPR, other medical certifications, training certifications or emergency response experience a plus. Knowledge of DEA controlled substance requirements a plus.Knowledge/Skills Needed
Strong understanding and in-depth knowledge of EHS regulatory requirements and technical codes of practice (OSHA, EPA, ANSI, and NFPA). Excellent interpersonal skills, highly effective written and verbal communication skills, problem solving and decision making abilities. High level of personal and professional integrity. Self-starter; highly detail- and outcome-oriented. Strong organizational, collaborative and interpersonal skills. Successfully working in a cross functional team environment is necessary. Proficient in Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, Visio and PowerPoint.
