DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to perform varied and increasingly responsible general clerical duties in an administrative office.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Greet public, answer and screen calls, compile and summarize data on student enrollment, attendance and other school activities; open and sort mail; sort, alphabetize, index, proof and file cards, records and reports; conduct transactions with other school district personnel, students and public in matters requiring the learning of rules, procedures, policies, and activities governing the office or area of assigned responsibilities; type reports, correspondence, labels, requisitions and a variety of other materials from copy or draft; check and process a variety of forms and records for completeness and accuracy; code or classify information as directed; gather, compile and summarize data on student enrollment, attendance and other school activities; collect and count money, issue receipts and keep related accounts; requisitions inventories and issue supplies; shelve and check materials and supplies in and out; use telephone to make appointments, to give out and receive information; may update specialized records such as cumulative, attendance, psychological, or medical histories; may substitute for higher clerical classes during brief absences; operate or learn to operate various office machines and equipment including a computer terminal; may serve as a bilingual interpreter.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

basic office methods and procedures including numerical, alphabetical and subject matter filing systems and standard office equipment operation;
correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation;
receptionist and telephone communications skills;
Spanish language for Attendance Clerk.

Ability to:

perform routine clerical work and learn office operations, procedures and equipment;
learn more difficult and complex clerical tasks;
perform simple record keeping;
understand and carry out oral and written directions;
establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;

Education, Training, and Experience:

High school graduation or equivalent;

Typing: 35 wpm

Requirements / Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent;
Typing: 35 net words per minute; must submit a typing certificate that is no more than 2 years old. No online certificates are accepted.
