- Promote and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the continuum of cancer diagnosis.
- Elicit detailed and accurate patient histories and perform through physical examinations.
- Order appropriate diagnostic imaging and tests to determine medical and post treatment diagnoses, patient conditions, treatment toxicities.
- Formulate appropriate treatment plans with critical thinking skills and high-level clinical judgement including prescribing appropriate medications.
- Chart patient progress maintaining detailed and accurate health records
- Oversight of emergency management of patients
- Hypersensitivity protocol
- Code Blue/ 115 first response
- Assessment of acutely ill patients awaiting admission to the hospital
- Additional orders for symptom management as needed
- Collaboration with inpatient medical team for handoff
- Prescription of medications for symptom management

- Address lab values if outside of regimen parameters to determine if patient can receive treatment
- Order supplements as needed based on lab values

- Maintain up to date clinical and professional knowledge via approved CME.
- Protect patient confidentiality, maintain ethics and abide by North Carolina laws and Duke Health System policies.

Job Summary
The Medical Oncology Advanced Practice Provider for our Outpatient Infusion Center and Acute Care Clinic provides direct patient care in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, including attending physicians and other medical professionals by collecting and documenting data, obtaining/ordering diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, laboratory studies and professional consultations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Education
NP:
Graduate of MSN or DNP accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
PA:
Graduate of ARC accredited Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree Physician Assistant Program
Certification
NP:
Any NP certification that treats adults (FNP, ANP, AGNP, AGACNP, etc.)
PA:
PA-C
Licensure
NP:
Unrestricted RN licensure issued by or recognized by the NCBON with authorization to practice as a
NP
PA:
Unrestricted license issued by NCMB with authorization to practice as PA
Both:
Federal and State DEA independent license with prescriptive authority
Experience
APP experience is preferred, ideally Oncology/Hematologic Malignancy experience, but recent or new grads, graduating by August 2024 are welcome to apply.
Other desired traits:
Full-Time, rotating hours, averaging 40 hour week to provide coverage Monday - Friday between the hours of 8am - 8:30pm.
